Someone once told me it takes about 2 weeks of no tennis to lose you "mojo."  I'm not sure if that is true, but I seem to lose mine after about 5 days.  I need to play all the time.

That all depends on how much tennis you've played overall. The more time you spend on the court, the long it takes for it to leave. Eventually things become second nature. After a couple weeks (which is where I'm at right now with no tennis), you begin to wonder if you really can play, but once you get on court the muscles just take over and you are good to go. I took a year off about 3 years ago, and when I stepped back on court it felt like coming home.

I was pleasantly surprised that my serve placement was even better than usual this morning. The big deficiency was my poor general condition (see above).

Today I had my usual hour with the tennis instructor and all went basically well except I was out of shape and out of breath most of the time; a consequence, I suppose, of intervening events such as drinking with Dallas, wining and dining at the Chicago conference, and general inactivity.

Some of the old bad habits were creeping back and were sternly corrected but, on the whole, I was pleased that so little had been lost. The instructor was pushing the envelope a bit by sending me overheads during the volley workout  . But the distress was compensated by an improvement in my volley placement  .

It's getting harder to have tennis outdoors now and I can see having to do with less anyway so I might as well get used to it.  Should start doing this stuff  like herc and monstertruck.

Stay away from my current 'training regimen'.
I've been doing a bit too much of this  lately myself!!!
End result...+8.5 lbs!

I usually do great after a week off because I come back excited and fresh physically.................after 2 weeks and things start to feel a bit odd.

Sunday - outdoors in the wind.  The ball was flying all over the place as I split sets (3-6, 6-1).  I had no interest in breaking the tie and elected to go home and watch football!   

As some may have noted, I was up at 3am yesterday watching tennis. It was good to see Djokovic (mostly) on top of his game again.

I had an agreeable game of doubles this morning. Temperature in the high 30s but it was sunny and NO WIND so it was rather nice.  Makes all the difference! Score 6-4, 1-6 (!), 2-2, when we had to quit  None of us were playing all that well but we enjoyed ourselves. This looks like a heavy tennis week; indoors-dirt tomorrow, hit with the instructor on Wednesday, indoors-hard Thursday night. Friday again will be a day off.

My hour in the cold for hitting with the instructor yesterday really paid off in the 2 hours in the warm indoors tonight. We had 6-1, 6-4, 6-1,2-1. I didn't drop serve all night and did very well with groundstrokes too. Volleys could have been better but some were OK. Ran down some nice gets and the hamstring didn't even protest  .  (N.B. Scott and OSU; time heals all! (until the next thing comes along) ). I  have to admit that the other side was not up to their usual form but that happens sometimes too.
Next week, Thanksgiving ;  NO TENNIS!.

I'd like that  ,
My lot just seem to want to eat  . Family commitments etc. as well.  I look like getting a good game Monday, however.

Yes, steady feed but steady criticism too. The big improvement in the groundstrokes is simply due to turning and racquet preparation until it becomes second nature. I can now put a pretty nice topspin on the ball almost at will. Same with volley preparation. On Wednesday, he had me doing reasonably reliable overheads; again by constant nagging about footwork, body and racquet prep until I hardly had to think about it.
It is proving to be a good investment. Group classes never seemed to help much.

How do you go about finding a club open on THX??     Unless maybe one of your group works there and has a key??

Dude, haven't you read about MY private club?
$560.00 annual dues.  Free court time.
Court usage rarely tops 33% between 9am and 6pm so there's a court available pretty much anytime except for Tues at 6pm and Wed at 430pm.
Now you know why I'm such a court hog in the winter!!!
