Topic: Will the US Open be a bust?

Yeesh!

The way this summer is shaping up it's got me to thinking that it just might culminate with a train wreck at the US Open. I was just wondering how the rest of you feel.

I've got "at least one between 4-10"

Looking at those between 4-10:
Ferru, Davydenko, Roddick, Nalbandian, Blake and Wawrinka are way out of form. That leaves Murray, but I can't see him beating Rafa unless Rafa is injured, though if he's on the other side of the draw, he could make it, but it would be a big surprise.
Looking at 11-20:
 So, if anybody is going to break up the big 3, it'll be Murray or somebody lower-ranked on an awesome Tsonga-like week, but they seem to happen more in Australia. I'd love to see Murray do it, but that's extremely wishful thinking, so I'm going with 2 of the big 3.

The US Open will be a massive bust. Nadal will make the finals and win the tournament, while Federer will lose early again as expected. Some no-name like Dick Gasket will make the finals and no one will care.

Murray and Gasquet are two fine players on fine form recently and I am thinking we might see both of them through to the second week and perhaps a few surprises. That said, Nadal looks like the man to beat at the moment followed closely by Novak. Roger's gone now but if he can find some form I'd still bet almost everything on him being in the finals and winning it all.

The only thing is that I'm glad the US Open is best of 5 so someone (even when Roger isn't playing well) will have to take 3 sets from him.  That is not easy to do.  So I still like his chances.

How can it be a bust?  You have great tennis being played in the greatest city in the world.  No matter who wins, it is awesome.  There is nothing like the US Open.  By definition, it can not be a bust!  I do think 2 of the top 3 will make it to the finals, and I hope to see Federer/Nadal.  That would be awesome, but surprises are always good.  New York loves an underdog, right Dallas (cheap shot at the Giants surprise victory over Cowboys).

Are kidding me? Save for 2005, no one takes the finalist of the Aussie Open seriously. Almost no one showed up for the Rafter-Rusedski final (I can't really think of a US Open final as "lack-luster" since).

It will be considered a bust, a joke, a whatever kittens deems it to be and his minnions parrot ad nauseum. That's how it will be remembered. Stick around and watch in awe 

aside: pssst, this year will mark the 7th year I've come all the way from Chicago and spent a week at one of the greatest spectacles in the world, in one of the greatest cities in the world.

So if the finals is Marc Gicquel beating Fabrice Santoro by a score of 6-0, 2-0 (ret.) in 27 minutes after two weeks of rain-drenching postponements, it's not a bust?

I agree with Jeffrx, if you are a tennis fan, there will be plenty of great match-ups!  Thats another reason I like Cincy so much is that there are no real fluff matches in the tourney...........almost every match-up is sweet!  The USO has alot of joke 1st and 2cnd round matches.

I say if we see 4 new potential champions, and they are all playing at the top of their games, then it would be fantastic. Bring it on!
