The bandwagon hasn't lost any wheels yet.
Juan just won a tough 5 setter against Simon, I believe he will start to gain ranking points now.
A good tough match to win!!!

Okay, Murray took him out but JDMP wasn't a pushover, he played really well.  I'm looking forward to his getting full control of his body  :rofl_2:  and improving his serve -- which he will. He seems to need to work a bit on his conditioning although he's worked hard this week, he seemed "pooped" in the 4th set. He'd played 2-1/2 more hours than Murray had this week, but Murray's conditioning didn't seem to be a problem.

I want to see Del Potro do well. I enjoy watching him play, I like to see emotions on the court and he let's us see what he's feeling... Murray does too. They are both going to be great additions to the top of the tennis world.  :))

Such a close match. I felt like JMDP ran out of gas - after all he's played for 6 straight weeks. As I said earlier in this thread, to me he is still growing and as you say needs to get full control of his body. In that way he kind of reminds me of Murray, whom I felt that way about last year!

I think I'm a bit converted too. He can be very impressive, but he still has some work to do. His game needs more variations !

Agreed. His movement can be better and will become so when he grows into that great big body.

his movement is Ok, he is big so he is not going to imrpove there. He must hit with more angles like Nalbandian, all his balls go out through the base line, never sides... then he hast to work on his serve and volely and he will be a real beast.

Yes, I felt similarly, ovg. It must be a challenge to have this sort of thing happen to you at age 19. At times in Washington, he looked just  bewildered.

He is still figuring things out. I hate to keep bringing up Murray, but so much of what's being said about JMDP could have been said about Murray in the last 18 months - only significant difference is that JMDP won 4 straight tournaments on different surfaces (Murray did win Cincy).

I never "converted". I have liked him from before but I was very skeptical because what I thought I saw was just not good enough to cut it. But I am now convinced that he's gotten a lot better and is moving in the right direction, his performance against Murray was solid too, it could have gone either way such a close match.

Now if you see me saying I like Nadal.. or more along the lines of Del Potro, if you see me saying i like Donald Young, THEN I'd have definitely converted  :rofl_2:

You're lucky that you can dislike players from your own country. I don't particularly like Murray, but because Britain seem to only have 0, 1 or 2 decent players during every era/generation, you are kind of inclined and forced to support them  :rofl_2:

Well its not like America has an excess of champions to choose from either  ..-) But yeah i guess I am not as obligated to warm up to every upcoming American as you might be in supporting Murray  :)~

is Andy Murray the highest ranked Scotsman/Brit ever? he will be #4 soon. i believe he can be #3 at his current rate of progress.

if that happens, Fed could be #4 sometime next year. here is the way it is likely to be at the end of this year:

1. Clay Monster
2. Djokovic
3. Fed
4. Murray

what a wonderful time for the sport finally. we finally have 4 that are capable of making monster runs at slams.

Henman and Rusedski got to 4 as well, other than that I don't think we've had any men in the Open era go higher. We may have had a women, not sure.

Henman was one of my favorite players. what class. i sure the hell wish he had given England a Wimby title.
