Del Potro's comeback is in full swing now.
Beating a top ten player and looking like he belongs there in the top ten.
He's improved in every tournament he's played so far so there will be more to come.
There's a chance he'll make it to the semis at Miami who I assume Djokovic will be waiting.

Right now he's getting critical matches he needs and has been going thru some tough draws.
With this win he's up to #45 in the rankings.

he is clearly a quality player, the results speak for themselves.

at this rate he should be seeded for the french open which will allow him to get good points at the folllowing slams and masters and set up chances for more upsets.

if he continues like this he'll be in the top ten by end of season, and based on his game thats improving, he clearly belongs there.

I watched Fish 'upset' Delpo and the Argentine seemed to be feeling pain, especially in his wrists and his thigh.. I know the weather in South Florida yesterday was hot and humid and JMDP tends to have that 'hang-dog' expression on his face in between points, but Delpo fought like a true champ.. Too bad he faded badly in the climax of each set.. Good work by Mardy.. It was funny watching the Miami crowd roaring their support for Delpo in what was being called Fish's home court!!

I saw that too with the wrist, not a good sign.

I thought it was great for tennis that the crowd was pulling for the recovering DPot rather than blindly cheering a national player. :))

shame he lost to fish because he's much better than that but its still good points towards getting back up to being seeded for slams.

So true.. Delpo is a class act and quite popular in the US. Mardy is the No.1 American on the tour now.. What an honour for Fish!! Hope he kicks on from here to make his mark on the tour this season..

DelPo is doing it the right way, he's getting much needed matches and some points.
He still needs to up the pace of the forhand and work on accuracy from that wing.
His serve is starting to round into form, he'll need that first serve to be working to keep the rallies short till the endurance comes back as it's not there yet.
He's moving better than just a month ago but at times he still is a little sluggish, the endurance will help here.
Once he gets moving better he'll be able to get setup better to unleash the deadly forhand, and the endurance will allow him to apply that pressure the whole match.

Right now he's been winning with the forhand and mental strength.

The best thing was losing to Fish, he did what he needed, some points, match play, feedback on what to work on and some cash.
He doesn't need titles now, that will come later. He needs to rest his body after months of going deep in tournaments. Playing while worn down only invites injury.

Once rested he can take it to the next level.

It's nice to see Fish playing well and I guess it was wishful thinking that DPot was a little further along in his recovery.  No hurry though, as long as he doesn't overdo it and aggravate the wrist.

DelPo looks a little tired, he's been going deep in tournaments and for just coming back after an extended time his body isn't used to it yet.

The main concern for DelPo isn't titles right now, just getting into form and gaining match play is the goal.

He should be playing well come the clay season.

At the last RG he played he took Fed to 5 sets and came close to puling that one out. At the time his endurance probably cost him that match,  he wasn't at his peak then either as he was improving the whole year after that slam.

Del Potro had a good win over Soderling.
And now has a 4-1 H2H advantage with the only loss coming in their first match in 2007.

I missed the end of that match, was checking in periodically but waited too long and the next time I checked the match was over.  :(

Another good result and a solid showing of determination from DelPo.
His game still isn't near his best though.
A lot of ball bashing from the baseline, Soderling tried to put it deep to keep DelPo from having too short of a ball to hit but was going long at times.

With this win DelPo moves up to #36 in the rankings and stays at #9 in the race.

If Del Potro continue recovering, he may be very danger in 2011 French Open.
I review his match with Federer in 2009, that is just 100% attacking tennis.

Good win over Verdasco to take the Estoril trophy. 6-2,6-2 says it all.
Not a stressful match and should be in good shape for Madrid.

Juan Martin Del Potro destroys Fernando Verdasco to win Estoril

Juan Martin Del Potro, after missing most of 2010 with a wrist injury, has played well in 2011 in his comeback, and now he adds some more silverware to his trophy cabinet.

After losing a set in the first round to Pedro Sousa, ranked around 500 in the world, not many had hope that Del Potro would get his clay feet this week in Estoril. Not only has he done that, he beat Falla, Soderling, Cuevas, and now Fernando Verdasco, all without dropping a set.

In the final, Del Potro was relentless against Verdasco. Consistent, heavy hitting was the order of the day with Del Potro dictating play and Verdasco defending and doing anything he can to get into the points. The first set, Verdasco broke once, but otherwise was a beatdown. The second set, Del Potro was visibly nervous when the opportunity to close it out came up. Verdasco save 2 match points before Delpo finally finished out a 6-2 6-2 victory in 1 hour 15.

Del Potro, who started this year ranked in the 400's, is now ranked around 30th in the world. See you in Madrid, fellas.

Very impressive!! JMDP went toe-to-toe with a quality clay-courter and beat him handily. It was a match in which Verdasco's skills only flickered; while DelPo's shone in full glory!! I am definitely looking forward to Madrid, Rome and beyond; and hoping DelPo can build on this triumph! Nevertheless, Nadal is the Standard on the dirt - Del Potro can be sure the road to the top leads to an encounter with the Bull himself!! ;-()

EVEN THOUGH DEL-POTRO'S DOUBTFUL FOR FRENCH OPEN 2011, NIKE HAS RELEASED A FEW PICS OF HIS PREVIOUSLY DECIDED OUTFIT FOR THE TOURNAMENT. !!
