In every single interview or speech, I see that he's so humble and has so much genuine respect for Fed  ://

Rafa wants to knock that Bangkok tournament right off his schedule now and round his year off with just Shanghai, Paris and then head to London for the WTF feeling pretty fresh and in a position to finish the year perfectly.

According to his official website, he is actually scheduled to play back-to-back tournaments at Bangkok, Tokyo and Shanghai, which is quite nonsense, I think. One of the smartest things he did this year was not to play in Barcelona, so he could have at least one week off in between tournaments.

Rafa has arrived to Bangkok, he is not taken this event too seriously!!!... but after the USO he said he was going to try his best and compete at the highest level in the last important events of the year, Shanghai, Paris-Bercy and the YEC.
some articles after the USO said he did not play in 500 Barcelona this year because he was not feeling 100% and then decided not to play, they are also saying he will play next year in Barcelona.
Rafa was critical of the Davis Cup format, he wants best of 3 sets rubbers instead of best of 5.

I thought in 2011 was when MS Madrid and Rome were changing dates of competition?? so it will be Montecarlo-Barcelona-Madrid-Rome-Paris!

Wow that's disappointing to hear Rafa's going to be playing Bangkok! I just don't understand this at all, he just needs to think what's important in his whole career now and is playing this sort of event going to help him become a better player at all or build on the Legend he is building up right now. I just can't see why he doesn't head to Shanghai feeling fresh and then onto Paris a couple of weeks later before the big 1 in London. Everything now should just be geared towards the WTF and Australian Open, whether or not he takes Bangkok seriously.

He definitely needs to play the same claycourt schedule as this year. Yes Madrid is before Rome next year but he doesn't want to have to play 4 clay events before Roland Garros and maybe 3 straight weeks as it may not make a difference to his RG chances but it may do to his tournaments after that. Rafa needs to see what his results were this year from pulling out of Barcelona. But there's a long time until then so I hope Rafa does the same.

Davis Cup is so tough for somebody like Rafa to play. Usually always a surface change to the rest of the Tour schedule. Usually always the week after Australia, right before the claycourt season or right after Wimbledon, then Semi's right after New York, then the Final in December is the last thing you'd want. All this over 5 sets too and almost always the week after a Slam has finished means its so hard for someone like Rafa, Fed etc to play Davis Cup on a regular basis.

Maybe hes feeling heps playing his greatest tennis ever, so he dont want to waste it, not that foolish IMO, it would be before a major or in the clay court season, but now... he didnt played a lot of hours or even sets at the USO so, its not that crazy really.

I don't think is bad for him to play a tournament before Shanghai, it's been two weeks since the USO and then he could have a week off before going to China (if he doesn't go to Tokyo). Besides, Paris is almost a month later and after that there's only the World Tour Finals.

So, we're talking about four one-week tournaments in three months. No big deal.

Rafa said he promised last year to his family and friends to go to the French Riviera after the USO and they couldn't go, so he is talking about enjoying Thailand, 1st trip there, with family and friends. It's just like a "holiday tournament".
Barcelona will be difficult to skip twice in a row, sponsors are important, big deal and it's his tennis club.
The Davis Cup schedule is horrible as you say, always after the slams.

Easy for us to sit back and 2nd guess his schedule.
It must be tough for the pros trying to decide when injury or age may overtake them.
Hopefully he's happy playing and enjoys what time he has on court.
