You really are so keen and pumped for the World Cup Babble, look forward to seeing the game rules when you get them up. I'm the opposite to you as you know and its purely all about United and the Champions League, Premiership etc, then this World Cup I'll get into a bit as the tournament gets underway and goes on.

  T4U Footballers WC Cup Challenge

Okay Football fans around the world, I'm introducing you to the World Cup Challenge. It's pretty easy to play. Perfection is not at a premium so everyone will have a good chance to rack up a respectable point total.

HOW TO PLAY

The World Cup Challenge is based on the same principle as the GS Bracket Challenges. However, as you know, bracket assignment for WC's 2R is based on each team's Group finish. For instance, think of a GS bracket, with an Top Half and Bottom Half. Players in the Top Half don't move to the Bottom half after 1R, and vice versa. As a result, you can predict with a high level of certainty 2R matches.

By contrast, in the WC bracket, the winner and r-up of each group will move to opposite halves of the draw. Why is this important? For this game to "work," it is not necessary to pick the order of finish in each group. All that is required is that you pick 2 teams from each group.

1R Points

You must pick 2 teams from each of the 8 groups, 16 teams in all. Every correct pick is worth 1 pt. However, whoever picks the most 1R winners receives a 3pt bonus. If more than 1 person have the high total, all will receive the 3 pt bonus.

Picking the Successive Rounds

In order for this game to "work," we have to ignore which Half of the bracket each team winds up in. As a result, all you need to do is advance the appropriate number of teams teams. It's for this reason that everyone has a chance to rack up a respectable point total and has a decent chance to win.

Also, keep in mind, just as with the GS Bracket Challenge, you are only credited for the spot you predicted your pick to advance. So, if your 3rd Place pick wins the Cup, you are only credited for a 3rd place finish, or 14 points.
*Note: It's possible for 2 teams to earn 14 points. Say your 3rd place pick wins the Cup and your Rup wins the 3rd Place game. Both picks will receive 14 points.

2R points

8 teams advance. Every correct pick is worth 2 points.

QF points

4 teams advance. Every correct pick is worth 5 points.

SF points

2 teams advance. Each correct pick is worth 15 points.

3rd Place Game points

Correct pick is worth 6 points

Championship Game points

Correct pick is worth 12 points

This is how the point distribution works out. Below, your pick advances to respective rounds.
2R* 1pt
QF   3pts
SF   8pts
3pl   14pts
Rup  23pts
C     35pts
*most correct 1R picks receives 3 point bonus

Tie Breaker

Champion pick 1st Tie Breaker

3rd Place pick is 2nd Tie Breaker

Rup Pick is 3rd Tie Breakers

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll clear it up for you.

Looks a good format to me Babble and with the difficulty of it being groups and then knockout I think you've covered it the best possible way to ensure it runs smoothly and your game doesn't got to pot if you get a few early predictions wrong or 1st and 2nd place the wrong way around. Looking forward to starting up :)

It does run smoothly. I ran this game for 2006 and won $200 because my Italy and Germany picks came through for me.  :shiny:

I noticed, there's not a clear Group of Death. I voted for H, but G is arguably tougher.

WHOA! Charlie Davies might be fit for the WC :shocking: :applause: :trampoline: :yahoo: :shocking:

Charlie Davies is an unstoppable force with superhuman recovery powers

Soccernet's Ives Galarcep has a fantastic update on U.S. national striker Charlie Davies and his miraculous recovery from the deadly car accident he was involved in last October. After breaking his right femur and tibia, left elbow, suffering facial fractures and a lacerated bladder (which somehow sounds like the most awful injury of the bunch) in the crash that left another passenger dead and the driver with only minor injuries, Davies is already jogging and doing agility drills just four months later.

Says Ives:

What does this progress mean, exactly? It means that, barring any setbacks, Davies could be back on the field with club team FC Sochaux by April, meaning his chances of playing for the United States in June's World Cup should no longer be seen as a shattered dream.

"Charlie is pretty much light years ahead of where anybody would tell you he should be," said Jim Hashimoto, the former U.S. national team trainer who is overseeing Davies rehabilitation. "When everybody heard about the accident, including myself, it was like, 'OK, this is going to be a long one' -- and it's still going to be a long one, but to see his progress is pretty amazing."

And amazing sounds like an understatement. The report goes on to say how Davies has already recovered from all of his broken bones, has gained back the 15 lbs. he lost because of the six surgeries he's had so far and only has one more on his elbow before he plans on returning to Sochaux for training by the end of February. Wow.

Now, broken bones and surgeries are one thing -- lots of people go through that and come back good as new -- but if you're somehow still doubting Davies' resiliency and superhumanness, read this:

The swelling in his face that was so evident during his interview with ESPN last November has subsided, though a shorter haircut reveals the scar he has from ear to ear arcing over the top of his skull. That scar came after doctors peeled his face off down to his chin in order to repair the multiple fractures that left his facial bones a shattered mess.

The doctors peeled his face off to fix his shattered skull? That's like Terminator type stuff.

Says Davies himself:

"I know I can come back and be one of the best strikers in the world. I know with the improvement that I'm making, if I can continue that with this new feeling I have now, it's going to be tough to stop me."

Yeah, he's definitely a Terminator.

I'm devastated for Becks and he's going to be absolutely distraught right now as he's been ruled out of playing in another World Cup after tearing his Achilles playing for Milan  :( :(
