Here's a picture.  What struck me is that Safin looks all hot and bothered.  Roger looks like he's freezing to death! :rofl_2:

A short interview made by a local newspaper. I trasnlated it so I hope you can understand it :rofl_2:.

"2010 may be my final year"
Gaston Gaudio told Infobae.com as he prepares for the 2010: "I will play the season with big intensity and then see what I do"

"At the end, the only thing left is tennis," said Gaston Gaudio in private pre-interview. He laughs and looks happy despite the fact that the last weeks have not been auspicious for him.

"Now that I begin to think more in tennis, I feel better. Let's hope 2010 will be a good year," a sort of prologue.

How are you preparing to meet next season?
-Good, what do I know?, as usual. Making the preseason. I didnīt have vacation, I stayed in Buenos Aires, and two weeks ago I started with the work. It's tough at this age (31 years), because this is something that I always did, but I'm not complaining because I still want to play and see if I can achieve the ultimate objectives.

What are they?
-I would like to play the major tournaments, play well, win some good matches and put myself inside the 50 (today he is 167 in the ranking). Iīm not asking for too much, am I? (laughs). But I'm not that far, if I win some matches I get between 100 and then, to work it out in major tournaments.

In the middle of the interview he asks for a minute to send a text message, which turn into several smaller messages as he received the answer almost instantly.

Are you all day using a cell phone?
-Mmmm, maybe. Recently, to not tempt me, I left it at home. I even give it to a friend so I didnīt become so dependent. But after 20 minutes I asked him if it had entered a little message (laughs).

Tennis came back to rule the scene inmediately. We consult him for the exhibition he played in San Juan and the Copa Argentina. And the "Cat" answers.

-I think I played well against Canas (who beat in his presentation at the Cuyo province). But not against David, but he was very good. Here I played pretty tight and I lost Moya in the third. I had opportunities, but didnīt take them. I feel good, hopefully I can continue improving to start the season, "he says.

Is it special to play in Buenos Aires?
-I love it because my family can come to see me, people who love me and because I feel the support of the public. It's the place I like the to play the most.

What was the balance you did last year?
-It wasnīt so bad the year. I would like to have entered to the top 100, but I had four tores in the season, something that had never happened to me, so Iīve been a lot of time without being able to play. Besides I was coming from a 2008 where I didnīt do anything.

"This may be your last season?
-It can always be the last with me. Last year I was not playing and many times I thought I wansīt coming back. Then I got excited and little by little I started to get into again. Next year I will play everything. Then I'll see ...

Thanks for taking the time and effort to translate, ton. That was really cool of you. :H

Gaston sounds so optimistic; what a great attitude! So not like him  :rofl_2:  I kind of wish Marat knew when to shut it down. Marat never spoke this way at the end of his career. The way Marat was talking in 2008, I really thought he was going to retire at the end of 2008. I don't believe he ever had the desire in 2009. But Gaston! for someone who, like Marat, is his own worst critic--to sound so upbeat and full of desire--it's just so great to hear!!!  :applause: :applause: :applause:

tores = injuries?

He is funny with the cell phone. I have a few YouTube clips of his cell phone going off in his bag during a match because he had forgotten to turn it off.  :rofl_2:

When I first saw him in person at 2005 RG, he was warming up with Luis Horna. I was as close as the guy who shot this. Gaston hit about 25 consecutive BH. He was just belting the ball, driving it deep in the corner time and time again. Just jaw-dropping to watch up close.

Thanks for posting that!  :thumbs-up:

Itīs something else..I saw him too training here in BA and you just donīt get it, he have it so natural. There are good backhands out there but gaudioīs its poetry, when I watch him on tv Iīm asking the rival to hit the ball to his backhand to watch it. I hope we can see that backhand on the biggest stages this year. ://

Marat Safin, one of my favourite plays.
I like his monster serve and backhand down the line, it is just so solid and powerful.
Sad to hear that he retire.  :blue:

2005 AO semi and final, just classic. (which I start watch tennis)

Yeah, he enjoys the good tennis even if he lose the point. He won that match by the way in five epic sets.

Time to shake things up in light of Safin's retirement and Puerta's disappearing act.

One I've long supported and have seen a few of times in person. Make room for Tommy Robredo! :applause:

His backhand is something to behold :good:

I saw him for the first time, last year when he came here and its was a real pleasure to watch him, I think that with a bit more of "killer instinct" he can do much better. Hope he does well in melbourne
