Anyone ever seen an Ice Storm?

They really are quite beautiful, but the impact is devestating. I got caught in one during my first winter in Illinois. Wiped out many of Champaign county and many trees on campus and power to remote parts of the county for a month.

I'm without power now due to the same problem. New Hampshire is 98% powerless right now.

My grandparent had no power for 7 days from our last one.  I think it was 3 years ago?  It was pretty crazy.  We were only out of power for 1 day.

I posted images of it the next day.

Yes, as Scott said, it was about 3 yrs ago when we in central Ohio went thru one.  I was out of power for about 30 hours but many were out for a week or more.  It was indeed beautiful to behold, but was also a very nerve racking time worrying about things like pipes bursting.  I sent the wife and kids to a hotel for the night and I stayed home and slept next to the fireplace.

Exactly! it might be beuatiful but it is a disaster in all other senses of the world. A lot of things that you wouldn't even think about get messed up for extended period of time and it's just scary!
I am for one glad that I haven't yet seen something like that in NJ.. maybe the humidity and relatively southern position keeps us safe. hopefully.

If it sprinkles one or 2 drops of ice here...everything closes down!  And you had to go to work in that mess? :scared:

Many folks still without power after the storm from last Thurs. night.  Some may not get it back until after Christmas.
A major pain in the butt for some folks, though sales of generators have gone through the roof!

More snow last night and now a freezing drizzle will further hamper clean up and power restoration.  Also a big dump due in of Friday.
