how often do you break your strings?
« on: May 01, 2005, 10:21:38 AM »
I was talking with someone at a tennis store who said he always breaks his strings after a few hours of play.  Is it normal to do this and does anyone else do this?   I hit hard with a lot of spin and I have broken strings fast but genereally they last me a few weeks.  Nevertheles, they got expensive so I am gonna get a klippermate soon and string myself.

I've never broken strings, although I'ce cracked the frame of my racket twice.  I hit with a lot of pace and spin too, I just never have broken a string.  Now that I'm saying this I probably will, but oh well.

I could not afford to have someone string my racquets and I have a Klippermate myself.

If I am just practicing, maybe3-4 hours.  4-5 hours of match play.

I use Prince Duraflex string.  There is more durable string out there, but this is a nice medium for me.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I am about to start using Luxilon Big Banger but I am currently using Prince Problend. If I'm playing competitively, it'll usually last somewhere around 2 weeks. Not bad hearing that someone like Scott breaks a string every few hours lol

I break mine fairly often, everyu couple days. And whenever I play a tournament I get them restrung even if they weren't broken.

Has anyone played a point and in the middle and broken strings and had to finish the point? I have. Its so annoying. I have never won a point in that situation though it has only happend maybe twice.

Seeing that I break mine so often I have been forced to finish many points that way.  It sucks but I win a good amount of them.

um, why could it not be restrung?  I assume you are telling a joke?  All racquets can be restrung.

I break mine every 2 weeks now that I'm using poly hybrids (Pro Hurricane 18 and a softer string - either Technifibre Ematrix, Prince Syngut Original or Lightning XX).

I have an ATS super stringer 2.....I play with Babolat ballistics on the mains and superfine play on the crosses at a bit lower tension. I get some good feel suprisingly, and I have yet to break a set of ballistics. I cut them out at the very most every two weeks. Maybe it's my strokes but I get really great action on the ball with this string job.

I wanna try some softer stuff with better feel, just for fun. Any suggestions at moderate prices? What gauge you guys using? I have 16 on the mains and 17 on the crosses.

My string never last either. Lately, it's lasting a little bit more than an hour when I practice. I'll be lucky to get 2 hours from my strings.
I've been a tennis bum for half my life.
I'll just be a bum for the other half.

Kittens 25, who did you ask?  I'll bet it wasn't a tennis shop.  There's no such thing as a racket that can't be restrung.

I break mine (VS gut 16 g) after about 12-15 hours.

Alphagut 2000, Technifibre E-Matrix, Head Fibergel power (IF you can find it for under $7)

I use 18g (a true 17g actually) with 16 on the crosses.  The mains on my rackets tend to saw into the crosses instead of the opposite.

Put Stamina in the mains and sensation in the crosses.
