The news today is that serious talks have been going on between Cleveland and Phoenix about Shaque. I forget the two Cleveland players they are talking about, but Shaque is a heavy load financially for Cleveland (something like $23 million next year). However Cleveland is saying money is no object. They want to seal the deal and win a championship while they still have Lebron James.
There is also talk about Richard Jefferson, and the Staudomire thing is still in play too.
Szerbiak is a key component, not because of what he does on the court, but because he has a large, expiring contract. Teams looking to be players in the free agent market need to have expiring contracts so they can get some cap relief. They will trade a high priced player who is contributing, for an equally high priced player who is not if the new player's contract is a short term deal. Then they can get flexibility with cap space.
