Hi all, just wanted to say *wave*...  I'm new here and sort-of new to the game, don't know much so I'll probably be more of a lurker with occasional stupid questions, lol.

Anyway, nice to be here.  And so many cool smilies!  :fishie: :rim shot: hee.

Thank you all, good to be here. :)

Do I play?  HAHAHAHA  :rofl_2: Good grief, don't I wish!  No, I'm afraid I was born with what they call "poison  grace," and not "poise and grace".  Alas, I live vicariously through others.  Not really fair because my dad was a tennis champ in his day...the legend has it that he was playing a tournament while my mom was  in labor and delivery, and into the second set (during which it was tied) the announcer came over the PA system and told the audience, "Mr. Wissywig...it's a girl!"  At which point the crowd cheered.  My father's trophy has my birthdate on it. :)  So it's in my DNA but you wouldn't know it to see me pick up a racket.  :\

Favorite players...hm.  After perusing the French Open thread, I think I'd be best to keep my zipper zipped on that one!  :zipped:  :))  I will say this: I enjoy the sport itself, and don't tend to idolize any particular player over another.  I am a bit partial to Djokovic, admittedly...and how can you just NOT love to watch Nadal and Federer?  Two totally different players with totally different styles and approaches to the game, and two classy guys to boot.  Nadal makes it look hard (I get exhausted just watching him) and Federer makes it look easy!  I should also say that I grew up watching guys like Jimmy Connor and Boris Becker and John MacEnroe as well as Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert (-Lloyd, as we knew her then) and does anyone remember little Tracy Austin??  I wonder if I'm the oldest one here...  :Confused:

Ha, yeah, those were the days where I don't think it even occurred to men to be near the delivery room (if they were even allowed)!  ..-)  :)~

You know, I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the Williams sisters for a long time.  First of all, women's tennis often gets on my nerves because of all the SHRIEEEKING, but there's been none of that of late.  Also, something happened, can't remember what, I think it might have been that business with Henin, and I didn't know the whole story and all I saw was Serena talking to the umpire and heard a lot of booing from the crowd, and it seemed that people were under the impression that Serena was being a prima donna...then I read the whole story and saw the footage and realized that dang, she got a bad rap on that one, didn't she?  :confused1: Then of course the media took off with it and had a field day with the "will they bury the hatchet??" crap.  

I know a lot of people believe that the only thing that matters is the how the players handle themselves on the court, but I feel that their off-the-court behaviour is just as important.  I had been under the impression that Serena was a bit of a diva, but I'm wary of media bias, so I keep an open mind about such things.  Now I root for her. :)

I think she out-and-out said that Sanchez was cheating. :laugh-bounce: (I agree.)

Yes, I agree too. Serena doesn't have a lot of fans, but I've always been one of them.

Oh, it's an, er... umm...eep...here: BFE.    It's an acronym for Bum F*** Egypt.  It basically means "out in the middle of nowhere".  aka The Boonies.  :)
