I'm an ITF Chair Umpire and new to this forum
« on: July 06, 2009, 06:52:05 PM »
First of all, my apologies for also posting this in Tennis Discussion earlier.  I didn't see the introduction thread at first.  My bad.

Hi.  I hope everyone is well.  This is my first post on this website.  I have been a member of a couple of other forums for a while, and enjoy a lot of the discussions.  I wanted to introduce myself first.

I am now 31, and have been playing tennis since I was about 11.  I never really played any juniors tournaments before or during high school.  I played High School tennis and a couple years at a D3 Junior College in MA.

After that, I started travelling as an umpire.  I now hold an ITF Silver Badge Chair Umpire certification.  I have worked since 1997 at 26 grand slams, 2 Olympics, 1 Masters Cup, Davis Cup, and many tour events and challengers.  I recently cut back quite a lot on how much I am officiating and now have a regular full time job at home.

One of the things I like about the web forums, is that a lot of people have questions on rulings, whether it be in an amateur match that they are playing in or in a pro match that they watch on TV.  Please feel to let me know of any questions you may have regarding rules, procedures, officiating or anything like that.  I will do my best to answer anything I can for you.

I also, from time to time, like to post up rules quizzes.  Sometimes, the amateur players have situations that come up and don't know what the correct ruling is.  So these quizzes may help you understand the rules better.  I also put some up with pro stuff that make you think a bit.

You and Jamesdster can throw down tricky questions and see how it goes.  Actually, you can just quiz him to make sure he knows his stuff.  He just started doing some officiating for some tourneys and OSU as well.

You and I are close to the same age.  I am 34, been playing since I was 14.  We both started around the same year and have both played 20 years now.  Awesome sport!

Welcome to the forums!

Sounds great Woodrow!

It will be nice to have someone here who knows what they're talking about.
We've been relying on JamesDster who's just getting started in the officiating biz.
He is sooo lame. ;-()  j/k
Actually , he's been great and I think it's interesting to hear tennis stories from a different perspective.
Have at it, most of us are a bunch of tennis nuts here. :)

We need some knowledge here to balance out D'ster's... um.....  :innocent:
Well, at least we have someone who can keep the guy honest.  ;-()

I think I remember you from the tennis warehouse forum.  You'll find a more family-like atmosphere here, with somewhat less trolling.  either way, nice to have you here.
