hey smokinaces...I usually have the same problem you have as well when i play HD files on my VLC player. Have u tried Media Player Classic? It seems to work better and also...have u downloaded and installed K-Lite Mega Codec Pack? Let me know if any of these solutions work.

xartiex is right, you should do that, I used to have the same issue, but with the k-lite codec works fine.
