I tend to use it just for small files. I think HJ split suffers from the same problems on Mediafire - if you decide to upload there I guess the answer would be to include par files (they're tiny) in with your rars. Have a look here http://www.quickpar.org.uk/  :)

I never had problems with merging files from mediafire only when they was splitted by hj-split. rar parts always occurs CRC problems and the way to fix it is adding some percentage of repair data when you create archive. then everyone can repair corrupted part when it's fully downloaded. sometimes, when archive doesn't include rapair data you can get correct extract with rar 'keep broken files' option but it doesn't fix the problem everytime. so rar archive and mediafire is not a good idea :)
