Our daughter will be 9 years old in 2 months and her hormones are kicking in something fierce.  I didn't think this was gonna happen for a few more years.  She is dropping mad attitude and really starting to hold huge grudges against us.  This is pretty crazy for her.  We just need to remember to respond to her in love and not anger.  Anger seems easier sometimes.

This morning she did not want to go to church.  She stormed up to her room, yelled "I am not going to church and that is final"!  I do not recall, but I am sure there was door slamming.  Wifey promptly followed her up with a paddle.  I stayed home from church as I am sick and have lost my voice.  Wifey took Abby to church but from the text message I just got, apparently there are some frigid breezes coming off of our daughter's shoulder right now...

She is gonna be a challenge. 

Mine did that too. When I tried to find out why I found one theory that as the brain develops there is a problem controlling the anger areas in the brain. There was other things that are strange too. My daughter told me she doesn't like people who drink pepsi and eat chocolate at the same time. Again, the brain not there yet.

Another study I remember is that the most successful people got their share of shedtime. Might be a good thing to hang that paddle on the wall as a reminder too.

I expected our daughter to get to this stage at some point, I am just surprised it is happening so early, she is not even 9 yet. 

I embarrassed her in front of the Grandparents this weekend and boy oh boy I had to suffer the wrath.  Very interesting stuff.  And the crazy part is that we will have to do it again with our youngest daughter when she gets to that point. 

I am curious to see how Zach handles this kind of stuff int he future.  He is pretty sensitive, kind of like Babs...

As the only person in this thread young enough to remember childhood, although I got spanked occasionally and it never did me any harm I don't think it ever really changed my behaviour. Confiscating things/stopping me doing things I liked, however, worked every time. Enforced boredom is way more likely to get a kid to think about their behaviour than hitting them.

Early bed time seems to crush our daughter.  She hates that more than anything so it seems and we do indeed tap into that a good amount.  She wastes the next hour of her life whining and crying just trying to get out of the early bed time.

Hmm... I can't believe that we project ourselves that way to the ROW since we've been very conservative since 1980-Reagan. It's been a long-time, too long, since we've been a liberal society, which is why this country is in the crapper.

Hmm... I can't believe that we project ourselves that way to the ROW since we've been very conservative since 1980-Reagan. It's been a long-time, too long, since we've been a liberal society, which is why this country is in the crapper.

By 1980, old white men and their religious base in the South became threatened by the advancements blacks, women, and the poor had made during the '60s and '70s. They've since been able to reverse all of that 10x10x.

Don't worry, nobody outside America is buying it. We know it's only the 'land of oppurtunity' if you're born into the wealthiest 10% of the population and don't wish to do anything remotely outside the norm. For example, if you want to drive through Alabama with 'Hillary for President', 'Nascar sucks' and 'Man-love rules' written on your cars, you will not find it a very 'free' country.

Yeah, we believe in spanking although we probably do not go to it enough.  

We asked our pastor about it 3-4 years ago to get a feel for his thoughts on it.  He was a supporter of spanking, but of course in a loving fashion.  Typically we talk to them first, let them know why they are getting spanked and then afterward we hug until they are done crying (usually not very long).  My wife and I hate spanking, it sucks, but feel it is necessary (in this house hold) and it is effective.  

My kids have now left home,spanking a child is last last thing i ever liked to do.Once in a blue mood i had to,but it was not very often.Most times if you stop their pocket money thay will get the message.Also you can ground them,but this is not as affective,thay might sneak out.

Well, money is no object as we only spanks the 8 & 4 year old.  But like I said, it is not often.  Maybe once every few weeks we break out the paddle.  Breaks my heart every time.
