No longer a lurker
« on: February 28, 2010, 12:20:40 PM »
Hi there, Everyone!  This is Mrs. T4U here, inserting myself into the tennis world for the first time.  My only true experience with the game is a tennis course I took with Scott waaaay back in the day at Kent State.  So, I'm very rusty to say the least.  However, as I have been able to watch Scott play (which actually is pretty rare since we have three small LOUD and rowdy children) I am enamored by how much he really enjoys playing and I always leave thinking "man, I could do it...but in a different time of my life maybe."  Well, the time is here!  I'm ready.

I took my first lesson this morning and it feels right, feels good.  I can't wait to get back out there and hit some more balls around, to get better at it.  I'm also eager to get the older two kids into some lessons at our local club to see how they enjoy it.

So!  No longer a lurker here, I'm a registered member and look forward to learning more and getting to know people.

Howdy Mrs. T4U!

That's an interesting observation you made while watching Scott play.
Some folks really get into the game and develop a real passion for the sport.
Tennis has something for everybody, whether it's the social aspect, competitive play, coaching/teaching or following the pros.  It truly is the sport for a lifetime.

Here's to hoping you come to love the game as much as your husband! :king:

Don't forget to start a journal and keep us posted on your develpment as a player. :))

Welcome from here too!  :))

My parents bundled me off to tennis classes at the age of 12 in those ancient days of wooden racquets and the like. Somehow I learned the basics of tennis then and I've always been grateful to my parents for doing this. As Scott will tell you, it is now a major part of my social life.  :drinks:

I never really took it up seriously until 30 years later but the basics were still there. When I saw Ken Rosewall serve in an exhibition not so long ago, my first reaction was "that's the way I was taught to do it".

The head tennis instructor subsequently achieved fame for "discovering" Evonne Goolagong. I was one of his less successful students.  :(

Well, welcome, welcome, welcome.  I feel like I already know you and the kids from all the stories Scott has told us.  I told him you guys need to write a book about all that - very interesting stuff! :rofl_2:

Anyway - welcome here.  I'll really give you a big welcome if I find out you're a Federer fan.... :innocent:

Thanks, Everyone!  I'm feelin' the T4U love.

Sorry Dallas.  I am STILL so much a newb that I don't have any major loyalties.  I am a die hard Baker fan though!   :))

OK, OK...  I will welcome you, if I have to.  :)

You will if you want peace at home!! :innocent:

It will be entertaining to get different perspectives from two closely tied people experiencing the same thing.  Hope you two have a good referee!

My wife doesn't play but understands the game fairly well and enjoys watching it as much as I.  She and I can get into some interesting debates on what we saw.  I sometimes wonder if we've seen the same thing.  :-)

And, no, she doesn't monitor this forum.

Glad that you're back out on the court.
