WOW! It's nearly been a WHOLE year since I've posted!! DANG!! Sorry, everyone.

Soooo, I've been um, busy, yea...very busy. In a year's time I've been raising kids, homeschooling one, shuttling kids to and fro, babysitting, enjoying the beautiful Ohio Summer we've had and playing a crap-ton of tennis.
I joined in on a 3.0 womens double flight league at our local tennis club last Fall and was fortunate enough to play all four of the courts at some point, but I mainly stayed on the last two courts. It was an AWESOME place for me to cut my teeth, so to speak. I learned so much from these different women such as the social graces of partner playing (cheering on your partner, NOT being a brat about losing, NOT chasing down first serve faults ((I hate it when women do that!)), being a good loser even when it hurts a lot, being a good sport when someone calls a good shot out and also standing up for my own calls. It's not always easy being a gracious player but it goes a loooong way in the social tennis world. I've seen my fair share of tantrums, poor sportsmanship, inwardly directed rants on the court that brings awkwardness to everyone and fights btwn women that go way out of proportion, so I don't ever want to give anyone cause to speak badly about my game or my character. So anyway, I've made some great friends and apparently been accepted into a tennis circle of women and I'm happy about that.

I also took some lessons/clinics this Summer with a local coach which helped my game quite a bit. She helped me get over the anxiety about playing close to the net. I was too afraid to approach the net and pick off any balls so I stayed back and missed too many. Once I got over that fear I realized that I can use my 5'10"ness to pick off a LOT of balls. WOOHOO!

Hitting with Mr. T4U has helped a ton too. He never feeds me the same ball over and over and it's safe to say that he doesn't take it EASY on me either, although he does dumb himself down to hit with me. So I've had the opportunity to see a wide variety of shots and speed...I seem to do a LOT better with the faster, harder balls than the softer, slower stuff. Actually the softer, slower stuff gives me waaaay too much time to think and I usually miss it. Forehand groundies are my strength (obviously, that's prob the case for everyone, right?), need major work on my serve and overheads.
I have a looooong way to go, but I'm proud to say that my game has amply improved over the past year!! I'm signed up for a weekly league again this Fall/Winter and I'm considering my first USTA league as well. I've been a busy tennis bee this Summer and hope to stay as busy this Fall/Winter as well!
Hope to be around here posting more often! School starts here in two weeks (laaaaate start here in our town, ugh), so YAY! This house'll be soooo much quieter.
