At least you guys have something to talk about during the NBA lockout.
Yea, ain't that something. First the NFL...now the NBA... who's next???
I must say as somebody living overseas where nothing like this ever or would ever happen this is a massive turn off both the NFL and now the NBA! If seasons start getting delayed or even worse still then to me it becomes way too MM like.
I understand the turn off part (not the MM comment). The baseball strike of 1994 killed baseball in Canada, and here crowds were much smaller for years. The steroid induced home run era of the late 1990s and early 2000s resuscitated interest in a sport that was supplanted by the NFL as the national past time years ago.
In that respect, the NFL won't experience a precipitous drop in interest because it's far and away the most favored sport here. I'd liken the NFL culture to that of the EPL in terms of fandom, but it also has a subculture that includes the Vegas sports book, fantasy football, and gamers.
The NBA likely won't be that lucky. Speculation is that fans will realize they won't miss it when it's gone, similar to what baseball experienced, but likely much more dramatic.
Fortunately, the NFL appears on track to reach an agreement. The NBA has a long way to go.
