ATP USOpen Bracket Challenge 2010
« on: August 26, 2010, 01:10:55 PM »
The Game

Pretty simple game format, most of you have filled out brackets before. This is just a one time thing, you fill out, and submit your picks now and just watch the tournament and see how you are doing by the end. The Pick 'em game on the other hand is more up-to-date and exciting. Nonetheless this is a great game to see what each of us feels before the start of the tournament.

Picks are due before play begins on Monday

How To Play:
1.  Pick your 8 QFists true to the draw and rank them C,F,SF,SF,QF,QF,QF,QF

2. Format: follow Pawan's lead--last name only; no comments*, emoticons,
puncuation and do not indicate their rank--it's understood they are in order (see 1 above).
*place all comments at the bottom of your list

3. Regardless of a player's actual result, he's only credited with points according to your pick.
For example, assume you pick Roddick to reach the QF, but he actually advances to the F. In this example, Roddick will only be credited for reaching the QF, or 50 pts. Similarly, assume you pick Federer to win the title (C), but he only reaches 2R. Fed's score, then, is 7 pts (see scoring below).

Scoring
Grand Slam scoring system will be employed.
C - 200 pts
F - 140 max pts
SF - 90 max pts
QF - 50 max pts
4R - 30 max pts
3R - 15 max pts
2R - 7 max pts
Main Entry - 1 pt

Example (based on actual 2005 US Open results):
………………..   Picks……….           Pts
Champion… Roddick…………...     1
Finalist……   Federer……………     140
SF………….   Hewitt……………..      90
SF………….   Grosjean………….      15
QF………….   Agassi…………….      50
QF………….   Ljubicic……………      15
QF………….   Nalbandian……….     50
QF………….   Hrbaty……………..     30
   Total Points……….      391

Notice, Federer is limited to 140 pts, even though he won;
similarly, Agassi is limitted to 50 pts , even though he reached the final;
So, had Federer been picked to win, he would have received 200 pts;
had Agassi been picked to reach the F, he would have received 140 pts ;
Roddick lost 1R, so even though he was picked as champion, recieved only 1 pt.

How To Win
The person with the most Total Points wins.

Tie-breaker
Pick 3 additional players and rank them 1-3. If your #1 advances further than his/her #1, you win; similarly for #2 and #3.

This is to avoid the identical picks submitted for 2007 USO, where the game ended in a tie for 1st because we didn't have a final tie-breaker in place.

Roddick
Baghdatis
Berdych
Soderling
Nalbandian

Tiebreaker:
Djokovic
Gulbis

Guys, I would actually appreciate it if you put last names only. Its not a big deal really but it makes my copy pasting hella easier if you could just do what I did.

But I understand labeling them as
W - Rafa<3
RUP - TMF
SF - Joker
SF - Muzza
QF - BurgerKing
QF - Birdbrain

is a little easier to keep track of and much more natural so if you do want to do that, go ahead, I am not going to go nuts over it.

Yeah, it helps immensely. As I've suggested in the past, if you want to make comments about your picks, make them below.

Thank you  :)

Oh yeah, nicknames and pet names don't work either, BGT :nono:

Federer
Nadal
Davydenko
Murray
Fish
Nalbandian
Berdych
de Bakker

Djokovic
Verdasco
Soderling

De Bakker is going to rock. Wacho my-o wordo's. The Dutch meanmachine will finally take the stage and enforce a hybrid undodgeable world domination strategy
Come on Fish and Nalbandian, I really like these two guys!
Federer beats Nadal and gains superstar status again.

Gulbis is a bad matchup for Rafa. I hate to pick Bags, especially when he's hot, because he always cools off. And he could face Ginepri in 2R. Ginepri is famous for playing one good match in big tournaments and messing up the brackets. But if Bags gets past Ginepri and gets to Roddick in the quarters, he'll have too much game for Andy. Oh yeah, it's too hot for Novak to win 4 matches in a row. Murray should get past a lackadaisical Gulbis and crap himself in the final 3,3,3.

I knew Dulbis was a chancy pick but I thought I would get at least a few more points off of the bum.  :mad1:

 :rofl_2:

And now Berdych.  :Sad-Bye:
