Absolutely loved waking upto this news this morning to see this absolute b****** dead!! Shame it wasn't 10 years earlier and so many people spared of his awful nature.

Oddly enough, I don't seem to be experiencing the same jubilation that other Americans are feeling today.

I suppose it's for the best that he's no longer plotting mass murder, but it remains to be seen if the system he's created will endure.

I think the damage has already been done.

On Sunday, the president said he ordered an operation -- carried out by a handful of U.S. troops -- to get bin Laden in Pakistan. The al Qaeda leader resisted and was killed in an ensuing firefight, and U.S. forces took custody of his body. He was later buried at sea, with one U.S. official saying his body was handled in the Islamic tradition.

He should have been burned and not given such an Islamic send off! Those 3000 or so people in New York didn't get any sort of send off and many were completely burnt to a crisp so he should have had the same ending rather than lets do the traditional way they do it!!!

Lleyton Hewitt won the US Open on September 10. I've always found it a very chilling side note to the events of 9/11. It's amazing Hewitt got out of NYC by 8am Monday morning. And had the date been 9/4, the players would have been stranded in Queens and scared out of their minds.


I also remember one year in the '90s Swiss Marc Rosset unintentionally missed his flight out of NYC, a flight that would crash and kill all of its passengers. What a random, freaky stroke of good luck...for Rosset, of course.

Yes I completely agree.  The whole reasoning for them disposing of the body to begin with was that "they didn't feel he deserved a proper burial."  IDK I just feel like the body was an important little piece of evidence that they shouldn't have thrown away like a used condom lmao.

I know time has  moved on,
but i think there are a few points that haven't been mentioned.
Firstly, Bin Laden was a suspect, he hadn’t been tried in a court and remember the FBI wanted him on other charges than his involvement with 9/11. His killing, murder? was indefensible when subjected to any civilised analysis fo the situation.
He wasn’t armed or in a position to do immediate harm to the Seals (were there 80?) given the US’s position on this, they should have abided by their own declared position. (Interestingly Bush used to detain and torture, Obama tends to assassinate).
A trial would have exposed him for the mundain little s**t he was,
but it would also have exposed the uncomfortable truth about the CIA’s
involvement with training of groups in Afghanistan in the 1980’s which
morphed into the Taliban.   

As the standard bearer of enlightenment values the US is in a unique
position both economically and in terms of  security to uphold that position,
not to squander that crucial symbolic role.

well OBL is to some extent a cultural construct and i don't expect that construct to be replaced with any kind of true reflection any time soon. It's certainly not in the interests of the political consensus in Washington and the UK or the media to start a project of accurate reappraisal.
For example i guess most people would think that when the US decides to bomb a country there would be tones of evidence linking OBL and 9/11, well there wasn't, or at least none that has been disclosed. Even the tape with Bin Laden on it was found after bombing had started.
Robert Miller told the Washington post that 'we believe that the plot was hatched in Afghanistan but implemented in the UAE and Germany', that was nine months after 9/11, and the FBI never had OBL wanted for his links to 9/11, but for previous crimes, and there's a good reason for that, there wasn't enough evidence for a jury to convict OBL in relation to 9/11 but obviously enough to start bombing a country despite aid agencies warnings millions could be killed as a result.

There are many anomalies regarding 9/11 and the US invasion of Afghanistan to go into here, but i'ld guess the perpetuation of the myth will continue, the reality would be too unpalatable for the establishment.

He wasn't a "suspect" because he on several occasions admitted to being the mastermind of 9/11 on video without police coercion. Personally, his fate should have been like Saddam Hussein. He should have been tried in "court" by his people, hung in the middle of the street for all to see.

OBL claims to have masterminded 9/11 don't negate his status as a suspect it would enhance it. You are a suspect in regard to the evidence that links you to a crime.
OBL confession is merely that, it's not some absolute proof-if i claim to have the biggest dick this side of Blackpool it doesn't necessarily follow i have-my claims about my WOMD may be exaggerated, that's for a jury to decide, ok not a jury i'm not gonna show my dick to a courtroom, but you get the idea.
It's also worth mentioning that the Bin Laden tapes appeared after bombing of Afghanistan started and were used as post facto justification-interesting how that works, bomb first, find evidence later.
