Why are red state welfare queens?
« on: June 02, 2011, 05:55:38 PM »
If not for federal funding, states like OK AL WY MS would be out of business. They survive off of the largess of the blue states like CA IL NY. It is the right wing's M.O.: Do as I say, personal responsibility, live within your means, don't run up credit card debt and look for bailouts, don't ask for handouts, don't burden society with your health care issues. But don't judge me by my actions. I cannot maintain my status quo without borrowing from China, my state cannot survive without subsidies, and those tornadoes. Open that checkbook and write me a check. But those people over there -- the poor --are the scourge of society, they are going to destroy America.

Now I'll back it up.

Quote
...the Tax Foundation — a conservative Washington-based think tank — has, however unintentionally, provided the answer. In 2007, the foundation published a survey of 2005 federal spending in each state and compared that with each state’s contribution in federal taxes. In other words, the foundation identified the states that sponge off the federal government and those that subsidize it. The welfare-queen states and the responsible, producing states, as it were.

The list, alas, hasn’t been updated — in part, no doubt, because conservatives didn’t like what it revealed: that those states that got more back from our government than they paid in were overwhelmingly Republican. The 10 biggest net recipients of taxpayers’ largess were, in order, New Mexico, Mississippi, Alaska, Louisiana, West Virginia, North Dakota, Alabama, South Dakota, Kentucky and Virginia. The 10 states that paid in the most and got back the least were New Jersey, Nevada, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Illinois, Delaware, California, New York and Colorado.

Per Federal Tax Dollar Paid, How Many do states get back? (From Tax Foundation)

New Mexico  $2.03
Mississippi  $2.02
Alaska  $1.84 -- Sarah Palin's state
Louisiana  $1.78
West Virginia  $1.76
North Dakota  $1.68
Alabama  $1.66
South Dakota  $1.53
Kentucky  $1.51 -- the home of Rand Paul and the most powerful man in the world, Mitch McConnell, and that's no joke. How did McConnell respond to the economic meltdown? Filibuster with the main goal to ensure that the middle class continues to suffer under the watch of the Obama administration. That, they believe, is the only way to regain control of congress and the presidency. That's not how Germany responded. Literally, only in America.
Virginia  $1.51 -- Eric Cantor's state

Montana  $1.47
Hawaii  $1.44
Maine  $1.41

Arkansas  $1.41 -- Mike Huckabee's state
Oklahoma  $1.36
South Carolina  $1.35

Missouri  $1.32
Maryland  $1.30
Tennessee  $1.27
Idaho  $1.21
Arizona  $1.19 -- John McCain's state

Kansas  $1.12
Wyoming  $1.11
Iowa  $1.10
Nebraska  $1.10
Vermont  $1.08
North Carolina  $1.08
Pennsylvania  $1.07
Utah  $1.07  29
Indiana  $1.05

Ohio  $1.05 -- John Boehner's state
Georgia  $1.01 -- Newt Gingrich's state
Rhode Island  $1.00
Florida  $0.97
Texas  $0.94

Oregon  $0.93
Michigan  $0.92
Washington  $0.88

Wisconsin  $0.86
Massachusetts  $0.82 -- Mit Romney's state
Colorado  $0.81
New York  $0.79
California  $0.78
Delaware  $0.77
Illinois  $0.75
Minnesota  $0.72 -- Pawlenty/Bauchman state
New Hampshire  $0.71
Connecticut  $0.69
Nevada  $0.65
New Jersey  $0.61

The entire leadership of the Republican party come from states that sponge off solid blue states.  :rofl_2: :rofl_2:

Time to pull the plug.

Yes, absolutely I do. I wish more people did. If the people in the red states were aware of this and actually lived by their convictions and had one iota of integrity, they'd be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately, they've let the Republican party high-jack their minds. It's quite Orwellian what is going on down here, Emms.

I think the least we have today is the integrity. i gave up a long time ago. they are not ashamed of themselves at all. they feel it's the right thing to do. after all, we live in a world where wrong is right. and right is so very wrong...

One of the hallmarks of an Orwellian society is that minds are hijacked through the medium of simple slogans.  FFF is a product of an Orwellian society. Did you see the way he tossed economic terms in a word salad and concluded that it's actually quite simple.  Actually, what it is is naive. Everything has to has to be simple to these people.  Complexity is not their friend. That's even supported by scientific studies of the brain.

Why is this woman making millions of dollars?

Because she said "God called" her, and red state America believes it; take a look at all of those red states^^^ Of course, God spoke to George W. Bush and called him to run for president, too. Red state America only supports non-black candidates that hear the voice of God talking to them. Very Biblical, sure, but these aren't Biblical times. Today, psychology calls those that hear voices schizophrenics and treats them with medication. Red state America is lead by their gut (feeling) not by their intellect; they are threatened by intelligence and demonize it. They feel good about people who speak like them -- inarticulately and incoherently (Palin, Bush) -- and speak to God. That's how you become president of the United States of America. Red state America is just that easily manipulated.

Isn't it odd that there are those of us that live by those values and yet you seek to lump us together with the bad apples?

By that logic, you should be grouped with the other leeches and maggots who steal from the system.

However, I shall refrain from labeling you amongst that group.

No, no, no :nono:

Your point wasn't to make a broad generalization. Your point was to label me.

I also noticed that your approach to counter argument hasn't changed one bit over the years. Find something inconsequential to say because you never have anything substantial to contribute.

Red State Rick Perry of Texas

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry likes to tell Washington to stop meddling in state affairs. He vocally opposed the Obama administration's 2009 stimulus program to spur the economy and assist cash-strapped states...

...Turns out Texas was the state that depended the most on those very stimulus funds to plug nearly 97% of its shortfall for fiscal 2010, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Even budget deficits are bigger in Texas
