I know she was but still... I'd hoped she'd make it. Man, she was only 27.

Health problems

Even before she gained the international celebrity that probably helped enable her addictions, Winehouse was open about other health problems, admitting to struggling with an eating disorder, self-cutting and depression on numerous occasions. Photos of an emaciated Winehouse were always popping up over the years, causing fans to worry she wasn't taking good care of her fragile body-a fear once again publicly validated by her own father when he spoke to the media about her bulimia in 2007.

As for her cutting problems, Winehouse seemed to have moved past that as she grew up: However, during an interview with a reporter from Spin magazine, Winehouse inexplicably began carving her the name of her then-boyfriend (and future ex-husband) Blake Fielder-Civil into her stomach with a piece of glass.

I'm wondering if any of the girls here identified with her and, if so, how they'll react to the news. Nothing so far.

and kurt cobain too, the club of 27. :(

she was great, her 2 albums were a wonderful exciting and refreshing new kind of soul and she had a great voice.

but, she became a train wreck, I saw her in concert 2 years ago and the message seeing her was too sad: don't play with alcohol and drugs.

sadly, if she had stayed healty she could have become one of the great soul singers of the century but....

in the end all her personal problems made her music legacy small, too small for all the talent she had.

All 27. That's really interesting.

I know Chris Farley idolized John Belushi, who died from a drug OD at age 33. Farley's death by drug OD at age 33 wasn't coincidental.

Flawed brilliance, I suppose!! Tennis is blessed with such great players who are also mentally strong and level-headed.. This unfortunate incident reinforces how lucky the tour has got that in spite of the long and taxing season, endless media commitments, etc. players have stayed sane and stong.
Not everybody is strong enough to deal with the increasing demands of stardom..

That's kind of wild.  I am playing her music (for the first time) on Grooveshark and that has been my favorite song thus far.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

I like Amy's songs but I am indifferent to her death. You can't help a person who pretty much chose her destiny at an early age and never cared for her family or her fans.

right Emma. Have you ever felt helpless? This girl had needed so much help. I actually don't care what you think right now (the marriage thing is off  :)). It might be not your thing but she had an amazing voice.

Oh, our marriage was on? I had no idea!

I am sure everyone on this very planet felt helpless at one point of time. No one is above it. Keep that in mind before making that sort of statement.

What kind of help did she need? Why did she need it?
