If I were born in 1932 then I'd be almost 80 years old now. wow - if my mind works the same way when I actually turn 80, I'll be so glad but I am fairly sure I will either die in my 60s or 50s. Or even 40s. I don't think I will die of any diseases but it will be some sort of accident.

Jesse, Emma is a nice girl. She's been around here for a long time now and we know her well enough. She just speaks her mind. I think this forum is open to people with diverse views. She doesn't get offensive anyway

can you imagine an eternity of anything, nice or not -you'd have to worship god don't forget, he created us for that purpose.
By wanting a deity you are in fact wanting to be a slave. God inhabits our thoughts, can punish us for them and if he is merciful then he effectively forgives us for bad things in our nature, and it's a nature he created.
there's a point mad by Christopher Hitchens and it's that 'we are created sick and then commanded to cure ourselves'
that relates to Christianity-but the idea is that god made us what we are, but then wants us to change to be something else that accords with his will.

I think people tend to believe in God if they've been brought up in it by their parents or they need it for comfort. There is no objective reason to believe in it.

Do you really think God torment us? A higher power? A higher intelligence we will probably never be able to fathom with our very limited knowledge? If anything, we torment ourselves. We are given choices to be good or to be bad. What we choose in the end is what going to shape our life. You can't be bitter about it. You made the choice in the first place. Granted, a lot of things are our completely out of our control but at least we are aware of it. So when we make choices, we make decisions, we need to keep those things mind. I believe that's the challenge in life or else why we were given such a life where we are fully aware of our own existence? Even in life, our very own man made life, we make rules. We punish those who break those rules. We reward those who obey them. Where did this sense come from? Who or what guided us to that direction? Now maybe we are slightly smarter but that's not the history of the mankind. We were naked and powerless without any guidance. Did we make up religion then in order to have a more organized life? If so, where did that knowledge come from? It never even existed in the first place.  Clearly we needed religion back then but why? Why couldn't we just live on our own? Why did we have to rely on something else...something even to date we are not sure exists at all.

Of course it matters. In fact it matter the most. You are going to shape your life based on what you believe after all.
