Why the "GOAT" thing doesn't really matter
« on: January 27, 2012, 08:54:55 PM »
Let's say for argument Nadal wins a few more slams and Federer fails to win an addition one. Then people will be arguing for ages who is the real GOAT. Imagine if Roger had run away with the sport like Graf and won 18-20 slams already. Tennis would be boring and nobody would be arguing about anything. Also does Roger's VIP lifestyle get diminished from "disputed' GOAT-status one bit? No! Everything is fine and all this endless shouting matches between fandoms is hilarious.
Then we will fight in the shade.

If Nadal hits or passes 16 slams then there will be no doubt in my mind he is the GOAT.
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Once again - why do you guys obsess about the GOAT thing? I'm already looking forward to Davis Cup, Rotterdam and Dubai! Can't wait to see Roger in action again kicking ass.

Obsess?  I threw down one sentence about it.  Probably been quite some time since I have even talked about it.  Far from obsession my friend.  :)
Good Luck on the Court!!!

Federer hasn't broken all the records. Maybe somebody like Wayne Gretzky is the only true GOAT of any sport considering the % of records he holds.

I have Fed as GOAT, no one else is close.
Some don't care about it but in other sports I follow it comes up all the time so it's a great subject.

Nadal needs about 18, he's missing all kinds of records and streaks.

He only has a couple years of domination and is getting a bare bottom spanking from Djokovic right now.

Nadal has the Olympics and more Masters Series titles.  I say if he hits 16 then he over throws Fed.

Masters(incl YEC) Roger has 24 to Nadal's 19.
One measly Olympic gold medal doesn't mean much in today's game.

Ask Fed if he wants a gold in singles...

GOAT never gets old to the sheep. Look at the fanatic flock and it's endless pursuit of the tedium.

But everyone in all sorts of sports talks about it so it must be relevant. :\

I don't believe in this goat thing at all. yes, I'll give credit to Rog but I still think he was winning when the field was too weak. I mean, who were his competitors?

Well, top 4 players at the moment are stronger than top 4 in Fed's prime, however everybody bellow top 4 today suck big time. :) Murray came in the AO semis having played dead-tired Nishikori, before that got a walkover, a 31 yrs old doubles specialist etc, that's a laughable draw.
