Coaching during the match
« on: January 29, 2012, 05:42:45 AM »
Personally I don't like it.

I am watching Channel 7 (Australian TV channel which broadcast Australian open every year.), channel 7 commentator Jim Courier and Lleyton Hewitt have been disscusing Uncle Tony is coaching Nadal since half way of 2nd set.

Question they are asking....

Should coaching allow in this match?

Certainly, Jim Courier definitely support it if ATP decide to ban it. Because he said a lot of time he don't like uncle Tony talked to Nadal what he needs to do.  ..-)

Channel 7 showed the clip...
Jim Courier said Uncle Tony was talking to Nadal where he need to stand when his opponent is serving and what shots he need to play. Jim Courier said the same thing when Nadal againsted Federer and Berdych.

Well, currently they don't have solution. Don't say it to Tony it is what I said, it is what Jim said.  :zipped:

It amuses me that Nadal fans think this is "news"!! Nadal has been fined for receiving on court coaching. And it goes on still. For commentators to come out & say it - finally - shows it is ongoing. Quite what "proof" is required, is difficult to see.

I'm not okay with it. Gamesmanship & rule breaking.  The desperation to win by any means.  If they do it & get away with it that is one thing. But I can't condone it or accept it as okay.

They do it.

Only a few fans know it and are willing to admit it.

The ATP knows it and chooses not to address the issue (sort of like stalling or screeching).

The media knows it and refuses to show it.

Completely unacceptable per the rules.

I don't want them to change the rules, just enforce them.

If some don't do it and follow the rules it's a disavantage.
I know Fed rarely looks at his box.

Today Nadal picked up a que to call for a challenge from his box as reported by the commentators.

^^^ that's the only thing the cameras showed, Swish. I don't support on court coaching either. it is cheating.

i don't like it..
during the finals, i was surprised that nadal wasn't fined by the umpire when he looked up to his box to enquire whether he should challenge the linesman call or not.. :confused1: :confused1:

this should be stopped.. :)>>>>

I do have to agree... This rule should be enforced.. it is not the first or second time this has happened and it will certainly not be the last until an umpire can grow some balls and enforce this rule against a top player and influential player as Nadal...

to be honest with you, yeah it is cheating in a way but it  doesn't  really matter. top guys know each other too well and I really don't believe that uncle Tony is such a tennis genius that he can help Nadal to win against Novak even if he was allowed to coach Nadal after every point. I mean what can he really tell him to do?

Nadal should get rid of his uncle and get a real trainer.  Nadal needs to change and evolve... easier said than done.

Can't say much about tactics, however advising whether to challenge or not, can definitely be helpful.

Seriously??? :confused1:

When some matches can turn on a single point and the differences after hours of grueling play are but a point here or there, having the assistance of a cool head and extra pair of eyes could easily sway the course of a slam final.  Easily.  Is that what you want?  I think you know my answer.
