Honestly for me Don Budge is #2 behind Roger. Wining the last 6 GS in a row to finish his amateur career including those monumental wins over Von Cramm in Wimbledon and Davis Cup clinch it.
Then we will fight in the shade.

Its impossible to compare tennis generations.
It is even more impossible to compare men vs. women in different eras.

I would've been better if they separated men and women, as well as defining different era's in tennis.

I'm rollin' with Baz on this one.

IMHO, based on achievements, it's nearly impossible to make a case for anyone other than Narvratilova, but there are those that will try.

also what are the basis for this? How does someone like Ivan Lendl not even make the top 10?

I'd go with Budge, winning 6 straight GS trumps career totals.
Then we will fight in the shade.

the list is so laughable it doesn't even deserve our attention........get over the blind love, fff.......american media will do anything to hype up their events and entertain their audiences to increase the ratings........putting two of the currently active players in the top 5 of all time goes to show their intent.......they just need attention........

1. putting men and woman and still ranking steffi at no.3 is retarded.......graf clearly overshadows any men's player's achievements.......

2. a player who got owned by his biggest rival through out his career can never be the #1 in that list.......he can't even be the best player of his era, let alone of all time.......

3. pushing lendl down to 12 and pancho gonzalez down to 23 is puke-worthy........

the list of downright pathetic i don't even feel like looking at it in detail.......in my honest opinion, goat discussions should end with sampras.......none of these current three super stars should be included in the debate, they all clearly benefited from surface homogenization and enjoyed top class pampering from ITF and ATP.......there's a reason why we see such a wide gap between the top 3 and the rest.......

i would rate sampras at the top, followed by rod laver, bjorn borg, emerson, budge, rosewall and lendl........

rafa, fed and djokovic defaulted from the debate and mentioned in the column "honorary mentions".......

Marian Vajda to Novak Djokovic, "I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man KEPT COMING AFTER YOU! Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."

i demand french open to be renamed RAFAEL GARROS

I think Seles should be ranked higher than Serena. on the other hand, if she hadn't been stubbed by that crazy German guy ... oh boy, that girl could have won so many more slams... Seles was so good

Tennis channel did say the list was subjective. No one will agree with everything on the list and that's ok too. They also said no one is right or wrong, basically it was done for discussion.

What I would have done is to split the list between men and women, then I would make a "greatest" list for each decade. When you look at how tennis was played in Laver's time vs today, it doesn't even look like the same sport!

Court is ranked lower then Navratilova?  Surprise!  Court won more GS then Navratilova!

Henin must have a smile on her face to be ranked in at 10th however!  Venus is quite high to at 8th!

It looks like more emphasis is placed in the open ERA.

Poncho Gonzales was a great player, being at #22 is pretty bad ranking.

When looking back on years in tennis till today, you must look @ the tennis rackets that were used.MacEnroe was one who used a older tennis racket, when things changed he never won another Slam.

Just to add i think it was Boris/B who came in with one of these tennis rackets that changed the game.

true dat !!!
i found the show enjoyable, but i can' t agree with it !! :confused1:
there's no way one can compare borg & federer or nadal..the courts were slightly different, balls were different & the racquet technology : definately different !! if only borg played with Wilson BLX..
You can ignore reality, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.
