he plays tomorrow a very important match against experienced Andreev who has done well in this event, in fact the russian has defeated 2 spaniards so far, Montaņes and GGL....but Ramos is playing for a place in his first atp final.
Andujar, the defending champion, could have a tricky match vs Cipolla.

Bracciali/Fognini a goood doubles team, clear favorites to win the final tomorrow.

I watched Andreev-GGL today. Andreev is a beast. I don't understand why he can't get his act together and stay top 20. Possibly injuries?

not really, just difficult opponents, losing big matches and the ranking going down.

in 2011, loss to Almagro 5 sets at the AO, to Tsonga in straights at RG, to Tomic 5 sets at Wimby, and Ferrer in 4 at the USO.
some more losses: Gulbis-Sydney, horrible south american swing losing early to Giraldo, L.Mayer and Schwank, 1-3, 1st round exit in Delray vs Sweeting, lost to Federer at IW 75 76, Isner in Miami, 3rd set tb, Houston-2ndR-Nishikori, Estoril-1stR-Raonic, lost to Riba in quali Madrid, 2nd round exit in Rome vs Gasquet also in Halle vs Troicki, then another horrible summer on european clay, Bastad 1rd exit Junqueira, Gstaad 2nd round Granollers, Kizbuhel 1st round Ramos 06 76(2) 46, lost to Gulbis in quali in Cincy, lost 3rd to Benneteau in Winstom-Salem in 3rd set tb, then losses to Seppi, 2nd round Bucharest and St.Petersburg and 1st round in Moscow, Bangkok 1st round vs Young, finished the years losing 1st round of two challengers in Geneva and Bratislava vs Darcis and Berrer.
2011 17-28

in 2012, he lost to Dogopolov in Sdney, then in the qualies of the AO to Sisjling, he was crushed by eventual winner in Viņa del Mar, Monaco 62 61, then lost to his opponent tommorrow: Ramos a very close match in Sao Paulo 76(4) 76(4), lost to Almagro in Baires 63 75, lost in quallies of Acapulco, IW and Miami, Bagnis, Smycek and Clement, lost to Dancevic the final of the challenger in Dallas.

Andreev and Tipsarevic are the same type of crop. only, Tipsy managed to grow up and he is hanging in there. I remember, a few years ago when Andreev almost def. Fed at the USO. He is fun to watch, but as Conchita said, way too inconsistent, he goes up and down. Based on his talent I think he should be ranked in top 20s, but he was always mentally weak. I've seen him so many times losing a match, when he was completely in control ..

 (3)  P Andujar  defeats  F Cipolla  63 75
 (7)  A Ramos  defeats  I Andreev  63 76(7)

as predicted an all spanish final! bravo!
I had Anjujar as champion before the start of the tournament but even if I am neutral I would love to see Ramos winning first title in first final!

I see that it's a Monaco / Andujar final here.

Young  & Robin Haase out in the first round & Dolgopolov following suit in the 2nd round, in straight sets. Somewhat wide of the mark for "bright young hopefuls" methinks - surely the idea is to make a mark in these less onerous events???  :)

Anyway, I wonder if Andujar will retain his title.

Yes - well done to Andujar for retaining his title. Ramos played better in the 2nd set but obviously couldn't do enough to take it to a third set.
