Serbia Open Hailed One Of The Best Tournaments
After the first ATP World Tour event ever to be held on Serbian soil was a roaring success in 2009, the tournament followed up with a stellar two years. “This tournament has only been around for two years but it’s run flawlessly,” praised 2010 champion Sam Querrey. “It’s a great event, the venue’s great, the fans are into it. Honestly, it’s one of the best tournaments all year.”

Nalbandian Highlights Field
Former World No. 3 David Nalbandian is one of four Top 50 players to feature at this year’s Serbia Open. The Argentine player, a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2002, is making his debut in Belgrade and is bidding to win his first ATP World Tour title since Washington in August 2010.

Andujar In Form - Spain’s Pablo Andujar is at a career-high World No. 38 shortly after winning his second ATP World Tour title in Casablanca. The 26 year old is set to play in Belgrade for the first time.

Hoping To Go One Further - Poland’s Lukasz Kubot lit up the inaugural edition of the Serbia Open, qualifying into the main draw before going on to reach the final (l. to Djokovic). He returns in search of his first title.

Resurgent Nieminen - Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen ended a six-year title drought at the start of the season in Sydney and comes into his Belgrade debut having reached two more quarter-finals.

Alex, Nole not playing because he doesn't want to compete 3 weeks in a row or another reason???
the weak is not stellar, he would have dropped less than 16 games in the entire event.

my take is that the finalists will come from seeded players in the 2nd or 3rd quarter, Nieminen, Fognini, Harrison, Nalbanidan.
Nalbandian seems the favorite, has not won a title since August 2010, lost the Davis Cup rubber against Cilic in 5 sets but played well. Harrison vs Sousa is a difficult start, nice to see Marko in the main draw!! and Donskoy who I liked in qualies in Barcelona with a wild card.

well , Conchita, I don't know. Djokovic says he needs some personal time off to grieve over his grandpa death. Regardless, I don't think Djoko should be playing any 250 tournaments. I still like the entry list ... yeah no big names but it should be fun .... as I said I'm very excited about Nalbandian and Harrison playing in Belgrade.

oh so Nole's little brother is playing, sorry I haven't even noticed ... a poor guy will probably lose it in the R1 ... Marko is sharing his last name with his famous big bro but he is a horrible player  ... kinda feel bad I had to say this  :zipped:

yes, Nole probably needs some personal time off to grieve his belove grandpa but I am not sure about Nole not playing in his country, the fans from Serbia, even if it is a 250 event I dunno.
there are a lot of interesting players to follow in this one, not only the seeded players, going to be fun.

well , he plays against Volandri, very difficult. Marko is only 20 y.o. you scared me with "horrible player", he is ranked 879 right now, highest was 628 in august 2010, so sadly he is not making progress, this year he has played 3 futures events in turkey,
2w-3l, then wild card in Dubai and won 5 games vs Golubev and sadly lost 1st round challenger Sarajevo.  :(

so surpirised: [6] Josellin Ouanna defeated [wc] Djordje Djokovic 64 62 in 1h10', quite a great debut in first atp match, but how old is Djordje? I thought he was only 16, perhaps 17.

gosh Conchita, I didn't even realize it was the youngest Djokovic (Djorje Djokovic) ... I thought it was Marco... oh welll, still a great match for a young fellow, nothing to be ashamed of.

On the other hand, I will never forget when Nole won his first slam at the AO 2008, little Djordje was so cute ... reminds me of my little nephew

I just googled him and he is 16 yo ...
