never in any doubt.......bolelli tried his level best and took 5 games.......quite contrasting 1st rd match compared to last year's 1st rd against isner which was a classic with nadal at 20% and isner at his best.......

Del Potro is injured. He has some problems with his left knee. His has some sort of difficulties to hold his weight by his legs.

After cruising in the 1st 2 sets, Fed drops the third in a TB.  :ZZZZZ)

Cilic with a stranglehold over JCF up 2 sets to love and in control of the third. :(

Berdych v. Llodra underway.  This could be interesting.

Roger won the match in 4 sets.
cilic played a solid game against Ferrero..
Berdych won the 1st set & the score is now 3-3 in the second..
Llodra has won the last 2 meetings with tomas..
i hope llodra gets this one too though i am 85% sure berdychh will win this..
however, i wish the french crowd drives him wild.. :))

simon vs baker should start any minute now..looking forward to it..

excited for V.williams vs radwanska( sorry..m feeling lazy to post in the womens thread.. :)~ ://)

Fingers crossed for Baker but I don't see Simon letting this one get away from him.

Wow - who saw a 5th set for the Baker/Simon match?  If you said you did - you are lying! :rofl_2:

Wonder if he (Baker) has anything left in this 5th set?

P.S. - Roger said you can't win the French Open in the first week - but you can lose it... so I'm just glad he 'got through' his match.   :))

You know better than that young lady, I don't pretend to 'predict' the outcome of matches. :)~  Nice to see Mr. Baker get a couple more sets in at his first slam in many years.  Simon appears to be breaking him down quite nicely here in the 5th.

Stan seems to be doing ok in his match and Verdasco seems to have righted the ship as well.

only nadal seems to be playing proper clay court tennis.......everyone else is just playing hardcourt tennis.......just a while ago baker was flicking winners at will like on hardcourts.......

i am not pleased with these surfaces........they are playing fast again.......why don't frauderacione francais de tenis just let clay be clay?

OK, genius ... all surfaces are so homogenized ... we all know that but I wouldn't go so far to claim 'Nadal seems to  be the only playing proper clay tennis' ... define 'proper clay play' please  :). Shank, I fell like slapping you sometimes, when you get so obsessed with Rafa.  :)~

proper clay tennis = topspin + angles + patience + errors + occasional winners = physical chess......only nadal has exhibited all that so far among the top players.......

djokovic, federer and company are just executing generic brand of hardcourt tennis.......i don't blame them but frauderacione francais de tenis for turning this event into an event of red hardcourts.......

Proper clay court tennis = heavy topspin, patient defensive play, tons of endurance (unless you take breaks of 30-60 seconds between points) and lonnnnnnng borrrrrrring points which some folks enjoy. :)

All that being said, I agree with Shankar and wished the courts played slower.  I prefer more contrast between the surfaces.

There is no such thing as "proper" anything! You do whatever you have to do to win the match. Lol! I rather be a winner than a "proper" loser!
