The Best Of Men's & Women's Tennis
Formerly the International Women's Open, Britain's biggest international women's event joined forces with the ATP World Tour to host a combined men's and women's tournament in 2009. In past years the men's ATP World Tour event had been played in Nottingham. Italy's Andreas Seppi won his first ATP World Tour title at the AEGON International in 2011 with victory over Janko Tipsarevic.

Who Is Playing
Andy Roddick, Richard Gasquet, Marcel Granollers, Andreas Seppi, Bernard Tomic, Julien Benneteau, Philipp Kohlschreiber,  Marcos Baghdatis

Roddick Hoping To Bounce Back
Former World No. 1 and three-time Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick looks to fine tune his grass-court game on his debut appearance in Eastbourne. The American took a wild card into the event after suffering a shock opening-round exit at The Queen’s Club a week earlier.

Seppi Defending Title - Andreas Seppi admitted he did not expect his first ATP World Tour title to come on grass when he beat Janko Tipsarevic in last year’s final. The Italian is in strong form as he bids to retain his title.

Gasquet Makes Debut - Richard Gasquet features in Eastbourne for the first time, but was a two-time winner when it was staged in Nottingham. He lifted the trophy in 2005 (d. Mirnyi) and 2006 (d. Bjorkman).

Baghdatis Looking For Form - Former Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis looks for match practice on his Eastbourne debut after a second-round exit at The Queen’s Club.

Tournament Info

The story of the AEGON International at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne could not be told without Martina Navratilova. She won the event an astonishing 11 times, the second-most times any player has won an event behind Navratilova's 12 titles in Chicago. She also won the doubles six times with Pam Shriver. Other all-time greats who were victorious here include Tracy Austin, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Chris Evert, Justine Henin, Monica Seles and Virginia Wade.

Devonshire Park is Eastbourne's oldest park and has hosted lawn tennis since the 1870s. It has been used as a local tennis facility, site for a number of Davis Cup ties and venue for the AEGON International since the tournament's inception in 1974.

Situated in the heart of Eastbourne among trees and gardens, the park is only minutes away from the town center and seafront, making it an ideal summer setting for the event. For many players, it serves as the final tune-up for Wimbledon, which gets underway the following week.

It's a sad day when Andy (not Murray) is seeded lower than Benneteau (whom I do like btw). :(

Gonna be interesting to see if Kohli can keep it up and make another final this year. Seems like decent draw.
Also Ricahrd vs Baghdatis should be a good one, if they win their matches..

Bring on more GRASS, its ON  :)

Why do top players even play the tournaments right before Wimbledon? :rofl_2:

Radwanska, Kvitova, Wozniacki lose openers
AP - Tuesday, June 19, 2012

EASTBOURNE, England (AP)—Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was among the top three women's seeds to fall in the first round of the Eastbourne Championships on Tuesday.

However, defending champ Marion Bartoli of France beat Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-2, 6-2. American Christina McHale upset third-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4.

Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan beat fifth-seeded Julien Benneteau of France 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (4). Kivitova was the first to exit, going down 7-5, 6-4 to Ekaterina Makarova of Russia 7-5, 6-4.

She was followed out of the grass-court tournament by top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, who fell 6-2, 6-4 to Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.

``It was a tough opponent for me for the first round, and I didn't play well,'' Kvitova said. ``She has won here in the past, so I know that she can play well on the grass. For me, this was my first match on grass and I didn't expect too much.''

Wozniacki always looked uncomfortable against the big-hitting McHale.

After splitting the first two sets, McHale broke to lead 2-1 in the third. Although she allowed Wozniacki to level at 4-4, the American broke serve again at love and closed out the match on her fourth match point.

The second-seeded Kvitova put on an erratic performance during her first match on grass since lifting the trophy at Wimbledon last year.

``It's not good preparation for Wimbledon, but I have more days for getting ready. I have to work hard now to improve my game,'' Kvitova said.

Radwanska has enjoyed a spectacular season, winning titles in Dubai, Miami and Brussels, and she believes that may have taken its toll.

``I think I have been playing a lot of matches this year, and I'm kind of like a little bit tired,'' said Radwanska, who double-faulted on match point. ``Of course I was trying everything, but she's really playing good on grass.''
