I know we SFs are coming up, but after watching several matches this year, is Wimbledon grass playing extremely lower than past years (and I am not talking before 2000)?? or is it just me?? Was watching Feds match, then Nole's match and now Ferrer's match and I see it extremely slow!! Maybe it's just me? Anyway, I just miss SOOOO much regular grass.. winners on every end and short rallies ending up at the net 99% of the times...

I watched the Ferrer v. Murray match last night and had to laugh at the number of rallies that went 12 shots or more.  That's not grass.  Ball sits up nicely, lots of solid hitting, obviously plays slower.    Heck, even Nole slides on grass.  Couldn't do that back in the day on the 'real grass'.

Yeah, I know what you mean!! Now a clay specialist can easily take Wimbledon!! What is that all about??? Come on, you have clay specialists, even hard court specialists, but due to the surface at SW19 this "specialization" of S&V or even hard hitting-fast winner maker is already gone!! Shame on Wimbledon!! Might as well call it Wimblegaros!!

djokovic is easily the favourite to win the semifinal........he has all the answers for federer's tennis........federer can come up with blinding tennis and still that won't be enough because djokovic is now a grown up man on grass, not a baby of 2007 anymore........


federer had a better chance at roland garros where he actually beat djokovic before and djokovic has some movement related issues as well........

wimblegaros is nothing new........it has been that way for the last 10 years.......wimbledon was at its fastest until 1994........1995 was the year when they first made the change and turned the grass into 60% rye content........sampras and big servers still dominated on it and people started whining again........so they changed it to full 100% rye in 2002 and since then not a single change has been made........even then the big servers have always enjoyed playing at wimbledon........

kohlshcreiber and tsonga were whacking it one way or the other on court no.1 and we could see a lot of short points winners........i think it's got to do with how they played as well.........

neither murray nor ferrer was willing to attack a lot........that lead to a lot of long rallies.......

grass is getting slower & slower , for example :average point in late 1990's early 2000's  was 2.1 and now is 5.7 hits
BBC has compered Federer (same)serve from  2001 with 2006 and ball bounced 10% slower and higher(cant remember % ...)

Fact that all courts are getting same & slower helped Federer same way it is helping djoper & Nadal nowadays

Court issue is not about Federer its about diversity, equal opportunity and true legends like Sampras & Lendl & Becker & Wilander (to name few) who are getting cheated in the GOAT talks

today we have super strings technology,same slow courts and state of the art doping methods ........GOATS ....no way

i agree with some points you make........the past greats are being robbed with these homogenized surfaces........it will be a joke if djokovic wins RG one day and then we will have 3 players from one generation who all completed career grandslam........


i am not saying that djokovic completing career grandslam is a joke but the fact that we have 3 from the same generation doing that while it was extremely difficult for many all time greats to even win 3 different slams back in the day because of the large variety in surfaces........


but the bbc comparing federer serve is just a garbage cherrypicking video.......one random serve from 2003 does not prove anything........there are many factors which decide the speed and wimbledon has been just the same since 2002........


the thing is where were all these slow court moaners when federer was winning wimbledons? which real grass court greats did he beat to win his wimbledons?


plexicushion is faster than rebound ace and french open has been sped up like mad since 2009........us open has been the same........so where's the slowing down? wimbledon? yes that's the only slam slowed down and it's been that way since 2002........i thought people got used to it but apparently their viewpoint keeps changes depending on who's likely to win wimbledon or any other slam.......

everybody is talking about super slow courts: BBC SKYSPORTS EUROSPORT ESPN TENNIS CH  no matter who is covering event that issue comes up, players (Fed & djoper yesterday) ex players, "journalists"  etc

decision to slow down courts is not made by Nadal it's made by tournament officials :

how much of "fish & chips" (strawberries and cream) are they selling on Wimbledon these days

sitting 5 hours at AO without something to eat or drink ?
compare that with 2hours average fast grass match .....

Money is slowing down tennis....for last tournament i've visited i got VIP passes for free but i did pay for drinks in cafes and launch in restaurant

I could have seen in your predictions Djokovic to beat Fed, but to do it in straight sets? Not gonna happen.. not a good prediction TBH.

It's not a biased point of view. As a neutral observer, I have seen far more convincing performances from Nole than Roger. He beat him in Paris in three sets, so why not again? I think Murray is a better player on grass as well than Federer.

Guess you haven't been following my posts since 2006-2007 when I joined this forum... every single year I complain about the surfaces and by the Federer was winning Wimbledon year after year... so, don't mistake me as whinning just because Fed is not winning, and last I checked, he is still in the SFs and Nadal is not, so no ground on your theory..

And next year when Wimbledon comes up, I will complain AGAIN about the slow surfaces!!

I do have to agree with you.. If Djokovic does win some year RG will undermine their own achievements, because why has Rod Laver been such a legend being the one who conquered the 4 surfaces and in the same year? Cause there were different surfaces...

I will still remain a Fed fan, but I am dissapointed at Wimbledon.

One thing I don't agree with is that you say nothing has been made to wimbledon, yet statistics show this year is even slower than that of 2007-2008-2009, when even Nadal won the major.

Agreed.
My opinion is that attacking tennis is not rewarded (by the overall slowing of the surfaces) and most players have adjusted their games accordingly.  Andy (not Roddick) and David being two good examples.  It's just not in their repetoire to play an attacking game throughout the match. 

That being said, there were some splendid points in that match.

okay.......the top players who are really being robbed because of surface homogenization in my honest opinion are the following players,


1. del potro


2. tsonga


3. berdych


those three players would have surely loved faster court conditions on the tour in general........i am not sure murray would love fast courts because he is prone to get blown away and he himself cannot play the attacking game.......he used to have a better attacking game in 2008 but these days he totally seems to have forgotten that part of his game........

i think he will win it this time........make that my call if you want to but that's what i feel........ferrer is an annoying opponent who will chase down everything and unless you totally blow him out and overpower him, he won't go away........

so that was a real test for murray having to beat ferrer by playing a game similar to that of ferrer's quite frankly speaking........

tsonga will be surely easier for murray........let's talk about the final after he makes it.......

i myself hate the slowness.......i can only think of two reasons for slowing down,

1. serving with modern rackets, the serves cannot be returned back on fast grass.......

2. they need increased match time for more ads and more income.......

i think its still quite good and will reward aggressive tennis.......just that so many players have stopped coming forward for really no reason........most players don't even end points that are begging to be ended at the net.......

Who said Laver won the grand slam on different surfaces??? There were only 2 surfaces when he played; grass and clay.
