I am NOT so sure.. But I read that this will be the first time the All England Club will have colorful players and take advantage to go the extra mile to be "flashy"... I can be mistaken..

they might allow........it would be great to see players wearing their respective flag colour clothes.......adds to the spirit and overall intensity.........

Tennis (lawn tennis) was part of the Summer Olympic Games program from the inaugural 1896 Summer Olympics, but was dropped after the 1924 Summer Olympics. After two appearances as a demonstration sport, it returned as a full medal sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics and has been played at every edition of the Games since then.
In 1896, 1900, 1904, 1988, and 1992, semifinal losers shared bronze medals. In all other years, a playoff match for the bronze medal was staged.
Starting from the 2004 Athens Olympics, results from the Olympics count towards both the ATP and WTA world rankings.

Wimbledon said the players will be wearing their 'nation's colors'...so no 'all-white' for the Olympics!

great and classy act by Roger, he declined to be the flagbearer in opening ceremony for a 3rd time in a row saying someone else should get the opportunity. don't know but I think he also has decided not to say again in the olympic village.

in the pic about Wimby and the olympics! the official theme will be "Purple rain" by aka Prince. really, too much purple, but there's no chance not to dislike the home of tennis, can not wait to see the players wearing the colours of their countries. Seems the show courts will be Centre, C1, C2, C12, C18 (sadly C3 only warmups, hope I am wrong.)

Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.

Don't forget guys, this is in BO3 format. Only the final is BO5. So this could be very unpredictable. Anyone can get knocked out if their opponent is on fire.

Federer might be the favourite but even he has lost to Hewitt and Haas in Halle finals over the last 2 years. So this could be a very interesting tournament.  :)

not sure why, but I fell Nadal will win this, assuming that Rog takes care of Stupidovic. well, I couldn't care less anyway. Tennis@Olympics, not my cup of tea.

i want to see how nadal moves in the first two rounds and then we will get the idea........djokovic said that winning olympics is his dream, so don't expect him to fold like in wimbledon indoors 2012........

Imagine Nadal winning a second gold medal at the Olympics. That would make him very special in my view.

Whoever wins, I think winning a gold medal is a big deal and maybe some people underestimate the status and achievement that it implies.

For instance, take Marc Rosset, he will always be well remembered for winning the olympic gold, whereas a player like David Ferrer will eventually be forgotten completely. (Although Ferrer is arguably a better player than Rosset).

Actually, I think just the opposite.  David Ferrer will be remembers because of his consistency, whereas, I have to really think back hard (or google it), as to who were the last - say 3 Olympic gold winners? :confused1:  The "average" tennis fan won't really remember who won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics...whereas, they can probably tell you who won the grand slams. (just an example...)

olympics which began in 776 BC is the great grand mother of all sporting events........not even football world cup can match the historical greatness and hugeness(debatable) of olympics........in my very honest opinion, olympics tennis falls only behind grandslams and davis cup titles in tennis........this is how i see the order of importance and greatness of events in tennis.......

1. grandslams

2. davis cup

3. olympic gold

4. masters 1000 titles

5. 500 titles

6. historical 250s umag, queen's club

7. world toast finals (year end championship)

:rofl_2: :rofl_2: :rofl_2: :rofl_2: :rofl_2: Is that because your favorite has NEVER won the year end - is this why you ranked it even below a 250? :rofl_2: :rofl_2: :rofl_2:  The Year end is what the players are playing for all year.  It's an 'honor' to make the top 8.  I can't help it if a certain player can't play on indoor carpet. :innocent:

Roger will still be staying in the house they rented for Wimbledon, so no Olympic village for him. Personally, I wish he would carry the flag. So many other tennis players are representing, I hope Roger, as reigning Wimbledon champ and current #1 would represent his country as flag bearer. Who else do the Swiss have?

Fabian Cancellara (born 18 March 1981) is a Swiss professional road bicycle racer for UCI ProTeam RadioShack-Nissan. A time trial specialist, he is a four-time World Time Trial Champion, seven-time Swiss National Time Trial Champion, and is the current Olympic gold medalist. He is also a winner of Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix (twice), Milan – San Remo, Tirreno–Adriatico, Tour de Suisse, Strade Bianche (twice), and five prologues of the Tour de France.

Last Olympics he also won a Silver medal.
In the current Tour de France he won the prologue and carried the yellow jersey for 7 days I believe.
