When was Federer's tennis the most beautiful?
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:02:14 AM »
I believe it was 2007-2009 when he was using the K factor racquet when the trajectory of the ball was so beautiful to watch. So many loopy balls with heavy topspin.  It was also a period when his footwork was beautiful to watch, moving like a swan.

What do u guys think?

2005-2007 for me...
You can ignore reality, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.

Before 2007.
But in the last year he's changed up his style a little and it looks great now, I really like his decisions to come in to the net when he should.

In his early years that forehand of his was just amazing to watch as was his high confidence/energy.

also the athletes are better now then in 2004, so his forehand doesn't have the same potential to generate winners and forced errors. So he has to adapt his game to win.
Then we will fight in the shade.

i thought fed was superb in the final at wimbledon.
that is as good as it gets. he is 31 and he still took the fight to murray.
he believed in himself and made it happen. you cant ask for more than that.
serving and the net game was at good as it has ever been. he did exactly what he needed to do on grass.

true, i love the fact that ne never seems to lose his passion for tennis

last year i felt like rafa has less passion for the game, it was a bummer but i cant blame him, so many slams, titles, fame and money at a young age

Nice thread, nli86.   :)

For me, there are often glimpses of something sublime from Federer, even in a relatively poor match by his standards.  More than the win or the loss, it is how he plays that I enjoy.
I will however think about "when" a bit more .........

In the meanwhile, I quite like this performance, at Wimbledon 2001. Both he & Sampras played some stunning tennis.

2007 Australian Open was his best overall display. Or was 2006 Wimbledon? Damn.

A lot of matches I forget already, so I am not going to pick any year, tournament or months. I pick moment.

When he creates a shot that nobody can think about or expect, these moments for me are his most beautiful tennis.

Federer from 04-07, even at the French Open played beautifully. Even against Nadal, many brilliant points.
