The ITF has announced the seeds for the draw for the London 2012 Olympic Tennis Event, which will take place on Thursday 26 July at 11am (BST) on site at Wimbledon. Seeds are based on the ATP and WTA world rankings of Monday, 23 July.

The draw for the Olympic Tennis Event will take place at 11am on Thursday at The All England Club, Wimbledon.
In total, 44 countries are being represented at The All England Club. There will be a 64-draw for the menís and womenís singles, with 16 players seeded in each event, and a 32-draw for the menís and womenís doubles, with eight teams seeded in each event.
The mixed doubles, which is making a return to the Olympics as a medal sport for the first time since Paris 1924, will have a 16-draw, with four teams seeded. The draw for the mixed doubles is being held mid-way through the tennis event on 31 July.

Entry into the mixed doubles will be based on each pairís combined ranking. Players can use either their singles or doubles ranking to qualify, whichever is highest, and a maximum of two teams per country are permitted. There are 12 Direct Acceptances into the mixed doubles, with the remaining four spots being filled by ITF Places.
If there are two players or doubles teams from the same country in any event, they will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. If there are three or more players from the same country in the singles event, they will be drawn in different quarters of the draw.

Wimbledon champion Roger Federer (SUI) is top seed for menís singles, with Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Novak Djokovic (SRB) seeded No. 2. Federer, who teamed up with Stanislas Wawrinka to win doubles gold for Switzerland in Beijing, is still looking for his first Olympic medal in singles. Home favourite Andy Murray (GBR) is seeded No. 3, followed by David Ferrer (ESP) at No. 4. Ferrer will be leading the Spanish challenge in the absence of defending champion Rafael Nadal through injury.
Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka (BLR) tops the womenís seeds, followed by 2012 Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) at No. 2. Roland Garros winner Maria Sharapova (RUS) is seeded No. 3, followed by Wimbledon champion Serena Williams (USA) at No. 4. Serena is bidding for her third Olympic doubles title with her sister Venus, who also captured singles gold at Sydney.
The seeds for the doubles are based on the combined rankings of each team, with each player using the higher of their singles and doubles world rankings.
Bob and Mike Bryan (USA), bronze medallists in Beijing, are top seeds in the menís doubles, with defending champions Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka seeded No. 6. Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond (USA) are seeded No. 1 in the womenís doubles, while defending champions the Williams sisters are unseeded.
If there are two players or doubles teams from the same country, they will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. If there are three or more players/teams from the same country, they will be drawn in different quarters of the draw.
The draw for the 16-team mixed doubles event will be held during the Olympic Tennis Event on Tuesday 31 July.

I love to watch other events too, but I'm definitely going to watch the tennis.  I love track & field, gymnastics, swimming/diving, etc.  So I'll be watching just about everything I can! (Tennis will be my top priority though) :))

actually the soccer competition has started before the olympic ceremony on friday, today the women, tomorrow the men.
it has started with some controversy, the north korean women soccer squad almost boycots the match against Colombia, it was postponed for an hour, the reason for north korea being angry, the official committee went to the field with the flag of south korea instead of north korea. terrible mistake or provocation.
would be great to open a topic about the olympics in the other sports section!

Also can not wait for the draw and the action unfolding at the home of tennis, Wimbledon!

Sadly Nadal is not participating. He is an international star and a gold medalist. His absence probably implies less (needed) media coverage for the tennis event, I think. Especially with the likes of Wiggins, Phelps and Bolt around, it will be hard for the tennis event to stand out. Hopefully the combination, Murray, Wimbledon, London can give the tennis event a nice boost, despite Nadal's absence.

As a proud Dutchman, I will be following Hockey, Horse riding, and Swimming events with particular interest.
The football event is a bad joke featuring only a bunch of amateurs and second-bests.

concurred........nadal is the first name which comes to mind when you say history, greece, sparta or olympics........nadal brings about 50% of the overall intensity, djokovic 20%, murray 10%, fed 5% and all others combined 15%........

Some really interesting matches are possible over the next few days.  :)

Falla in R1 and Bennetau possibly in R2 for Fed.

Wawrinka in R1 for Murray.

Fognini in R1 and Roddick in R2 for Nole.

Potential QFs:

Federer vs Tipsarevic
Ferrer vs Del Potro
Murray vs Berdych
Djokovic vs Tsonga

Both Djokovic and Murray had  tough draws. Murray had to play wawrinka in first round and Djokovic probably play Roddick in second round. And they will meet in SF. Not to mention tons of big servers players in their draws.

Meanwhile fed had easier draw. Tricky first and second round but he will win if he just play like usual. Then maybe in QF if he meet Isner. His real test will be in final against Djokovic or Murray.

But one match at a time.

And I am hoping my TV station will broadcast Olympic events so I can watch all the sports too.  Specially swimming, athletic, badminton, gymnastic and diving
