The ITF has announced the seeds for the draw for the London 2012 Olympic Tennis Event, which will take place on Thursday 26 July at 11am (BST) on site at Wimbledon. Seeds are based on the ATP and WTA world rankings of Monday, 23 July.
The draw for the Olympic Tennis Event will take place at 11am on Thursday at The All England Club, Wimbledon.
In total, 44 countries are being represented at The All England Club. There will be a 64-draw for the men’s and women’s singles, with 16 players seeded in each event, and a 32-draw for the men’s and women’s doubles, with eight teams seeded in each event.
The mixed doubles, which is making a return to the Olympics as a medal sport for the first time since Paris 1924, will have a 16-draw, with four teams seeded. The draw for the mixed doubles is being held mid-way through the tennis event on 31 July.Entry into the mixed doubles will be based on each pair’s combined ranking. Players can use either their singles or doubles ranking to qualify, whichever is highest, and a maximum of two teams per country are permitted. There are 12 Direct Acceptances into the mixed doubles, with the remaining four spots being filled by ITF Places.
If there are two players or doubles teams from the same country in any event, they will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. If there are three or more players from the same country in the singles event, they will be drawn in different quarters of the draw.Wimbledon champion Roger Federer (SUI) is top seed for men’s singles, with Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Novak Djokovic (SRB) seeded No. 2. Federer, who teamed up with Stanislas Wawrinka to win doubles gold for Switzerland in Beijing, is still looking for his first Olympic medal in singles. Home favourite Andy Murray (GBR) is seeded No. 3, followed by David Ferrer (ESP) at No. 4. Ferrer will be leading the Spanish challenge in the absence of defending champion Rafael Nadal through injury.
Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka (BLR) tops the women’s seeds, followed by 2012 Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) at No. 2. Roland Garros winner Maria Sharapova (RUS) is seeded No. 3, followed by Wimbledon champion Serena Williams (USA) at No. 4. Serena is bidding for her third Olympic doubles title with her sister Venus, who also captured singles gold at Sydney.
The seeds for the doubles are based on the combined rankings of each team, with each player using the higher of their singles and doubles world rankings.
Bob and Mike Bryan (USA), bronze medallists in Beijing, are top seeds in the men’s doubles, with defending champions Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka seeded No. 6. Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond (USA) are seeded No. 1 in the women’s doubles, while defending champions the Williams sisters are unseeded.
If there are two players or doubles teams from the same country, they will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. If there are three or more players/teams from the same country, they will be drawn in different quarters of the draw.
The draw for the 16-team mixed doubles event will be held during the Olympic Tennis Event on Tuesday 31 July.

Play will commence at 11.30am on the outside courts, and noon on Centre and No.1 Court for all days except Saturday 4 August, when the women’s singles final will begin at 2pm, followed by the men’s doubles final. On Sunday 5 August, the mixed doubles final will begin at noon, followed by the men’s singles final and women’s doubles final.
Courts
12 courts will be used for matches: Centre, No.1, No.2, 18, 14, (TV courts) 7, 11, 12, 14-19.
7 courts will be used for practice: Court 3 (warmups), Courts 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10.
