He should because he is clearly the better player. Why he decided to play baseball in at 5-3 up in the second set is beyond me.

Last 4 service games, Federer has been broken 3 times.

Back at 2-2 in the third with Falla to serve.

this is a slaughter house... Berdych out, Verdasco out,  lost to Istomin, Nalbandian out (OK, that's  not a big surprise, still) ... Kohly out (I was really surprised)...

True that. Although I'm happy that Haase retained his title (as a Dutchman). Hopefully he can carry that momentum on to the OS tomorrow  .

I'm afraid that we can add Federer to the slaugter house; he has lost it mentally it seems to me.

Beyond me too.  Falla has taken his chances beautifully, but Federer should have taken this in 2 sets.   The mind boggles.  He is rattled, and Falla with the momentum.

DALLAS - I'm not sure it's about match-up here.  Federer just went AWOL.  But he will fight for it. I think he'll do it.

When it mattered, he did what he needed to do. It's good preparation to be challenged & come through.
Falla played some intelligent tennis to take the momentum in the second set & to fight in the 3rd set. A very good match from him.

I'll check the rest of the tennis - Murray / Wawrinka is the one I've wanted to see today.

Hello ORACLE!    Glad you're less frazzled now that Federer has won.   
Benneteau was excellent in their match at Wimbledon, wasn't he!  The obvious concern is that he would have won in a 3 set format, and both he & federer will be keenly aware of this.
I expect him to be confident & Federer will need to be better focused than he was today. 

Anyway, for today, I hope Murray can take this match against Wawrinka.

You're right. Roger just did get by him in 5 sets. But I'm glad Roger pulled it out today!!! That was too close for comfort!

Both Falla and Bennetau were 2 sets up against Federer at Wimbledon, in 2010 R1 and 2012 R3. So yeah, the next match will also be a nailbiter.

I like Murray a lot, but I hope Wawrinka can edge that one. Still think Murray will win it eventually though.

Yeah, Andy is defintely my 2nd choice too. If Federer loses early, I'll be rooting for him. Sucks that he is facing Stan in R1. I like both of them, so it's difficult for me to choose between them.

Federer is nervous it seems. Gifted the second set to Falla -- after being 5-3 up -- with 10 unforced errors.

Not surprising.  He needs to settle into this tourney.  He does not get a shot at this next year and he knows this is the one title that has eluded him.  Good to see him come through.
