What a match! Federer wins 3-6 7-6 19-17 in 4 hours and 26 minutes. 

Sucks for Del Potro now, but I hope he wins bronze now. He deserves it. What a player! He is well and truly back now. I think he has a great shot at the US Open. Top 5 beckons to him.

Congrats to Roger Federer for moving to final (and he will get a medal after 4 try ).

When Fed failed to convert so many break points in third set and after break Del Po but losing his own serve when trying to serve it out, I thought to my self that Roger will break down and lost. Cause Del Po serve like a champion. he serve so many first serve when he need it and Fed had so many second serves (specially when he try to serve out the third set)

Somehow Roger manage to dig deep and win. No wonder both players cannot hide their tears. Very tough match.

Not really, at the USO he won he took some pace off his serve but today it was very good.
His ground strokes very good also, his game looks to be picking up quite a bit and he showed no signs of choking like he used to be.
 
He did look like he was tiring though.

del potro was clearly the better player but once again his WTA side gets the better of him........his current fitness level is not enough for best of 5 sets tennis and today's battle was as good as a best of 5 sets or even more........

i thought d pot made a crucial mistake in the second set.......serving at 4-4, fed lead 40-0 and suddenly had a little brainfart and threw away the next 4 points in a rush........advantage to d pot.......del potro instead of letting fed self destruct for one more point, takes the towel and gives him those extra 10 seconds to regain focus........fed was clearly throwing that game away and with that the match too........

swish his fitness sucks for a 23 year old........it's just too bad that a player with that kind of destructive game can't go strong for 4 hours........i also don't think his forehand is really back to what it was in 2009........

I hope this form of serving will become his natural form for his rest of career. A couple of months ago, people were argued about Del Potro for two element, motion and serve.

Humdinger of a match this.. Shades of the 2009 Wimby final - with both players dominating from the service line. Federer had his moments in the 3rd set, but the ground game let him down at crucial moments.. The 'W' for Roger in such a close match, against an opponent at the top of his game, will be uplifting though..

Del Potro played great.. Served big throughout.. This was a throwback to the autumn of 2009, when he bullied opponents from the baseline.. Like Oracle said, this bodes well for the USO..  I wish him well for the Bronze medal match.. How cruel the Olympics can be? Del Potro left his all on the court in his bid to reach the final, now he is expected to overcome the disappointment and play for the Bronze?

Yes, I saw him slowing down some and knew he was running on fumes.
He needs to be in top shape for however long it takes, he can do it but there's no shortcuts.
 
This has been one of my major complaints for a long time now.
 
But he's looking better on grass than he used to.

It suck that to win a bronze the losers of both SF had to play it once more for who know how long. Winning a medal in tennis is very grueling and long. (depend on how the match turn out)

They got a day rest for final (if I am not wrong) So its not  big deal for Roger . But After this lost, Delpo still had to play the mix today. Hope he can regain his fitness quickly.

And he still need to play the bronze match. Go DelPo
