yes it falls under athletics.......some of the track and field events are running, hurdles, long jump, high jump, throwing events like shot put, then there's pole vaulting etc.......

A POST FROM MASTERCLASS that was moved here to this thread:

Agreed.
You know, I have to wonder how David Ferrer will handle the pressure of being Spain's leading player at the Olympics.

I used to watch the Olympics for years, but I got a bit upset when they allowed professionals in the sport to compete.
Don't those guys in the NBA have enough glory? To me, it just made a mockery of some of the events.

By the way, off-topic a bit, but here's a guy from way back that I think would have given Bolt a run for his money.

Ladies and Gentemen, the incomparable "Bullet" Bob Hayes  in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (prior to his success in American pro football NFL Cowboys).
They used to say that he only ran as fast as he needed to.  Unfortunately the videos below are old and not the best quality, but they get the point across.

In the first video, the individual 100 meter dash, he comes from dead last out of the blocks on the inside lane to win going away.
In the second video, his 100 meter anchor leg coming from close to dead last in the 400 meter relay remains one of the fastest, if not the fastest splits to date. About 8.5 seconds (running start).  The USA team is the next to outside lane. Remember, these were dirt cinder tracks, not the bouncy cushion composite tracks of today.

No one man could cover him in the NFL.  Vince Lombardi invented double and triple zone coverage to handle him.

Bullet Bob Hayes was fun to watch (as long as he wasn't playing the Browns).   :rofl_2:  He was stupid fast!  duh
I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.  - Mitch Hedberg

THEY MADE THIS SPORT! .....dedicate this to Elena Mukhina.

my fav? my heart says Kuchinskaya and my head Tourischeva
and we didn't know that the collapse  of the Soviet Union will mean the end of the glory era for artistic gymnastics, or didn't we?

truly one of the best montages I've ever seen. Artfully done, the music was perfect, and displaying a wide range of competitions and skills. Wonderful tribute to an unforggetable legacy. A masterpiece!

  • I am the most beautiful
Given that my quarter blood team (Argentina) did not qualify for this Olympics, I am not zealous about football in this Olympics.
Though I tend to enjoy Olympics in general, over exposure to one event can become swiftly boring. I hope someone can challenge Bolt this time round as I happen to abhor his on field sarcastically comical acts. Apart from that I have nothing against him. I wish Tyson Gay luck.
I like Archery, used to like Pole Vault until it became boring.
I think Phelps 14 Olympics medal is not so impressive given that they are all in swimming and all in the same water. I think it would have been more evocative if swimming was/will be done using pure water, salt water, tar, crude oil, kerosine, phenolphthalein etc.

The world awaits no genius

But Yohan Blake did beat Usain (both 100m and 200m)in the Olympic trails, hope Usain is fit and ready to go!
