that was a huge surprise..
i really didn't expect her to fall, but after that fall, i didn't expect her to win gold/silver..

I can't believe that at the last Olympics the US got gold, silver, and bronze in the men's 400 meters...this Olympics - NOT ONE AMERICAN even made the FINALS in this event for the men!  Wow!

Amazing SF match between USA women and Canada ends 4-3 USA on a 123' header by Alex Morgan from a long cross by Heather O'Rielly. A goal so reminiscent of Abbey Wambach's header to the net following a long cross from Megan Rapinoe vs. Brazil in last year's WC.

Canada lead 3 times, with all three goals coming from their superstar Christine Sinclair. After that questionable delay call that ultimately led to Wambach's PK to make it 3-3, I felt badly for Canada and almost wished they'd win because they certainly deserved to. Canada is a great team. I'd say a real threat to the USA. I don't like the way Japan plays so I don't rate them that high.

In the other SF, Japan advanced setting up a rematch of last year's WC final against the US won by Japan on PKs. France missed a PK that would have tied it 2-2. After watching the US miss all those PK's last year, I'm always amazed to see women miss PKs. The goalies are so small and less athletic than male goal keepers, there's just too much open net to miss. The margin of error is so great, they don't have to be perfect, and yet they play it way too close for comfort and wind up missing. Even Wambach's PK hit the inside of the post. Whaaaaa??? Just kick the frickin' ball already!

yeah Sid, she is amazing. Female soccer/football (I prefer to say football) is very popular in Canada. everyone is crashed by this defeat. that penalty shot for the States was the silliest call ever. again we got robbed.

Canada sure as hell deserved it just as much as the US, and I swear I was practically rooting for Canada after that delay call. The commentators said the goal keeper *must* already have been warned. The replay shows McCloud held the ball for 10 seconds. I've seen a goal keeper given a yellow card for delay, but never an free kick... 

The difference between soccer and tennis: gamesmanship can cost you a gold medal match.
