Nice pics. CD - what do you make of the mighty Falla pushing Fed to 3 sets? It seems the Colombian has Roger almost figured out.
Then we will fight in the shade.

It's a great basic camera for banging around in the boats or truck, but I can see where you may be ready to 'kick it up notch!'.

this one might work. i will have a good look at this one tomorrow when i hit the target store in baton rouge.

**this one is nikon coolpix P510. 16.1 MP and 42X optical zoom. this one may be plenty good to kick around and to learn on.
i am not sure if they have a 18 MP 36-42X optical zoom.

Sweet.
You might have to up your budget ceiling if you're looking to get 18 meg.
How did you determine that's the resolution you'll need?

You simply must get Scooter to change the first letter of your username to a capital 'H'.   ;-()

i will check with him next time i see him around about changing that to a capital letter.

i just figured 18 MP was about the highest available.

you are right. i may have to spend a few more bucks if i want 18 MP. i have a feeling that nikon P510 may do the trick for me. 16.1 MP is really more than good enough.

i am going to be carrying this to some of off road bike rides so no need to spend a lot of money on an entry level camera that i just want to to use to start learning a few tricks and the trades of photography.

hercules - the D3100 pretty much is entry-level DSLR. I've taken so many great photos without having to manually adjust ISO levels. The dial gives you pre-canned settings for different environments(indoor, outdoor) and the selector switch has the ability to go between single-shot and burst-mode.
