A link to news of Nadal's withdrawal:

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-08-15/rafael-nadal-withdraws-from-u-dot-s-dot-open-tennis-because-of-injuries

I haven't seen anything about exactly what is wrong with him.  Curious.

As for other things, I bet Federer is on his knees  praying that the USO will miraculously build a roof especially for him!   :rofl_2:
The fact that the bulk of his titles were played & won in open air conditions & that Wimbledon 2012 is the only one of his 17 slams won under the roof clearly supports the theory that he needs a roof in order to win anything!   :rofl_2:

Nonsense aside,  As others have pointed out, Nadal's absence thus far would have minimised his chances for the USO title & in this regard, the likelihood of Federer or Djokovic or Murray winning it remains the same.  This announcement simply confirms that likelihood.

It is nevertheless always sad to note that one of the top players is out due to injury, and I hope Nadal will be back playing again very soon.

So Ferrer will be the #4 seed now. Both Federer and Djokovic would love to have him in their half now.  :))

delpo should step it up. I always thought that he can be a threat at the grandslams, but after the injury he has struggled to hit that top form he has shown us at the US Open 2009.

I hope he makes it to the semi final in the absence of Rafa. He will be seeded number 8, does this mean that he will be placed on the opposite side of Murray? I sure hope so.

He can be on either side, it's random.

I'm hoping for his game to break out.
I saw some signs at the Olympics that he is near to his old form.

herc - as long as D-Pot doesn't have to play Fed he's ok. His mental block there is just too big.
Then we will fight in the shade.

It's Fed's game, he gives DelPo no rhythm like no one else.
Fed tried to outhit DelPo and it cost him a slam, stubbornness will do that.

Yeah I thought the same, but the olympics was different. Delpotro played really well and Federers variety was less effective in that match. Now, did Delpo make some adjustments to fed game, was fed off a bit? I am not sure. But it will be interesting to see what happens when they play again.

good to see you around tennisfan78.

looks like the field is on the move. pretty much everybody is improving except for the clay warrior who is going backwards.

i think d-pot is finally making some strides in his game.

That was a good match, I saw some good things from DelPo that I haven't seen for awhile.

Sorry about your man having to sit it out for now.  Hopefully he'll recover soon & get back to his tennis with more enthusiasm than ever.  Injury is never fun, but to a sportsman in his prime, it seems particularly cruel. What a pity.

The favorites are (imo):
1. Djokovic
2. Federer
3. Murray
4. Isner/Roddick/Fish/Raonic
5. Del Potro/Tsonga/Berdych

* Maybe Haas can make a deep run? I think so.
* Wat about the beautiful Lopez? Maybe.
* Verdasco, Tipsarevic, Almagro, Cilic, Simon? No.

* Surprise this tournament: Nishikori, hopefully.

watch out for these 3:

fed, nole, and murray.

i cant see a susprise finalist. these 3 are too good. they will keep them out.

with this draw now there are only 2 possibilities:

1. murray vs nole

2. fed vs nole

so who will it be?

Nishikori is on fire right now!!!
I like Feely Da Lowpez, but his head is in da clouds.
Fingers crossed for Haas to make the semis and teach the bashers how to play real tennis.
CONK da ball!!!
