3 full days of tennis (plus Monday) in the relentless sun and heat, and I can't wait to get home!

Saw 3 5-setters, 2 winners (Fognini and Gulbis) came from 2 sets down and Almagro rallied from down 2-1 sets today to win in 5 tight!! Sets. I was really worried. Petzchner has the best slice BH on tour. My god the ball stays 6 inches off the ground. It's just a barrage of slice, then he simply unloads a FH. It's just massive. Such an effective play against Almagro, really tested his mettle. I didn't see him coming back. His collapse to the court after match point was apropos of the greulling battle, both mental and physical, in pretty severe conditions.

Dallas - Phau made some nice winners, kept things fun.
Then we will fight in the shade.

ORACLE  -  Fish came back from being 2 sets down too. Is he one for your list?

Yes, he is Warrior #10!  :)

Cilic has played 2 five setters already. Don't know how much he'll have left.

Dallas is happy and I'm happy for Dallas but I can't help it ... I watched the match for a bit and it was just hopeless that I couldn't care. I felt the same way with Nole and  Lorenzi. Let's have Nole vs. Fed final and get over it  :innocent:. It's getting so predictable it's not even funny.  :zipped:

The dude that drew the most OOOooos and Ahhhhs was Petzschner. Almagro and Jack Sock drew some reactions, too. Gulbis...he hit a lot of W and UEs but I really don't recall him eliciting much reaction from the crowd. Monaco hit some big FHs too.

really strange tournament so far. Tsonga is out. Klizan played really well. I'm trying to watch too many matches at the same time. I'm going crazy  :)). watching Kolya/Fish and this kid Sock (really like him) ... too much tennis for me  :rofl_2:

I'm not surprised Tsonga went out. I've noticed that he really wilts in the heat. It was really hot yesterday.

if the match went that far, almagro must have struck at least 10 backhand winners.......his backhand can generate serious power.........

There was some big hitting yesterday in the Grandstand, for sure.

Same thing with Novak... These guys in the early rounds are getting what - 5 total games from him? But the top guys are doing what they should in this first week - get through and expend little energy.

Gulbis turns his fans grey before their time! He's a very hard player to get behind. Lol

D-Pot took care of business today. Surprising Stan needed 5 sets against injured Darcis.
Then we will fight in the shade.

Agree that, Alex.

Gulbis is the spoilt brat par excellence.  Talent alone won't do it & he is a classic example.

Thanks for the schedule of play Swish. there are some potentially tantalising matches there:

Fish -v- Simon;   Almagro -v- Sock,  Blake -v- Raonic , for example.

From today, I'm glad to see Del Potro, Gasquet, Dolgopolov & Hewitt through.   I've been watching  Isner / Neiminen & Isner will take the 4th set to go through.

I'm now watching Roddick / Tomic.  For old times sake, I hope AR gets through.

Carpe Diem
