If the miracle happens, and Ferrer somehow makes it to the final, and Murray wins the title,
there will be lots of folks who will seriously advocate for putting an asterisk to it, since he did not have to go through Nadal, Fed, or Djokovic...
Just as some people still don't regard Fed's FO title as "real", since he did not have to play Nadal....

The way things are going right now, I just don't see Ferrer beating Novak, nor do I see Murray beating him.

Straight up!  I hear there's a movement afoot to put an asterisk on Laver's 2nd grand slam, because he didn't have to face Rafa, who at -17 was youthful and completely injury-free.  They're giving Laver a pass on his first slam because Rafa would've been only -24 years old at the time and the experts believe he likely wouldn't have been a factor.

I agree players need to adopt, but why suspending one match and not the other?

Also I think wind could be a potential threat as well as rain. After all the sweating, with the wind involved theres also a risk of getting sick, but thats another topic...

All I'm saying that SF was ridiculous to watch in those conditions. This is not coming from a fan boy but reasonable person, and a guy who wanted to see some nice tennis and all we got was non-stop discussions about that wind.
At times I wanted to forget about it, but commentators just couldn't let it go either.

I think it ended up being called because it was a level 3 evacuation - ie a public safety call.  Not strictly the wind itself.

It was suspended due to potentially violent rain. They wanted everyone out of the stadium safely. The rain came. Not sure how violent it was, if at all.

As far as the conditions go, anyone remember the Agassi match from several years back?  I think it was in the 2004-5 timeframe, and a big storm had blown through.  The sun was shining but the winds were, I believe, even stronger than yesterday.  It was an early round so I don't remember who he played, but that day definitely seemed stronger winds than yesterday.

I suppose you could say the quality of the tennis suffered, but I think that given the conditions it was just as spectacular.  I would also liken it to watching earlier eras of tennis - yeah it's not as fast as today, but still spectacular in my book.

I wasn't. I was just happy to see such great tennis.  and , as said above, I found the windy conditions annoying.

I did meditate again on how comparatively poorly Djokovic played at Cincy this year (and last). Clearly for him it is a warm up. Must give Federer credit for putting on a good show there and giving the Cincy crowd some of his very best.

But still, I won't be coming to NYC for tennis. Too big and noisy  . Melbourne will always attract (as long as they keep the AO there.)

Sorry guys but I'm not buying it, BOTH matches should have been suspended imo. Violent rain 
When Ferru-Nole match got suspended they were playing in the same conditions as the whole Murra-Berdych match.
