Here's something that you guys may not know. It's actually a topic discussed here and on all message boards.

The USTA prides itself on the Open being the toughest, most demanding of all the slams to win. At the Open, you face extreme weather changes (hot, humid, cold, rain, wind), night matches, the "New York crowd" (which has really been wussified since Ashe was built now that the rowdies sit a thousand miles from the action), and Super Saturday with the final on Sunday. It's for this reason they won't build a roofed stadium.

People say it's Roland Garros. People are wrong.

 
It is tough to win. So many players are good on hard courts so that alone makes it tough.

Apart from anything else, *this* is what makes the USO the toughest to win!  Agree!!

what I meant by that sentence is exactly what Haas said in that video. I actually posted that sentence before hearing what Haas said about that rule.
So I definitely agree with him that they should suspend the match when the wind gets above some limits. Which I really don't know as I can't tell how heavy winds must get to 'create' a ridiculous tennis match.

Here's the other problem. Rain, heat, and now wind could suspend play. Often wind and rain go hand in hand. One day you suspend because of rain. Another day you suspend because of wind.

You'll never finish a tournament.

I think the 'you'll never finish it' weakens the argument.  I like your first better:  if you aren't at risk for injury, play on.  Why play through rain on clay?  Because you can. 

I agree with Agassi.  Man up.   If not, then maybe everything should be indoors.

No it doesn't. That point is strong.

As for clay, I've sat through multiple rain delays and suspensions at RG. You can't play in rain. That's silly. You can only play up to the point the lines are deemed too slick. If it's raining, the courts are covered. And when it rains for hours play is suspended.

To me its not the issues to 'man up'. Sure they can take the wind, it was never an issue.
Its what you get out of a tennis match when those silly conditions are on.
And you get a circus rather than a quality GS SF tennis match. Players laughing at flying plastic bags every minute, players laughing at 'moving chairs and racket bags' etc...

Back to the Murray-Nole match:
I just don't see Murray taking 3 sets from Nole...
Although he played solid in the early rounds, in the matches against Cilic and Berdych, he did not always look very good.
I don't think he can have those kinds of letdowns against Nole and get away with it.
Nole, on the other hand, has played very well all tournament, except that one set against Ferrer.
And the fact that he had to play a 3- setter today, won't matter that much either, he is in superb shape.

How does djoko ever lose?  You can't get a ball past him AND he never misses.  Not a good combo for whoever he is playing on a given day and it is Murray on THIS given day.

rafa and fed showed how to do it without having to try hard to penetrate his defense........

fed tactic: uses that slice which gives djokovic fits.........that short cross court slice to his backhand and djoko is not quite sure how to respond to that, leaves the court to his right uncovered and just not sure of his positioning for the next shot........rafa too used this tactic well in AO when his(rafa's) backhand was just dead apart from that slice.......

rafa tactic: serving 90% of the time to his forehand and constantly throwing deep balls down the middle giving him no angles to work........djokovic implodes and replies with plenty of short stuff for the opponent to pounce on.........that happened the most in montecarlo this year, a little in rome and rafa was his sheer best at roland garros this year that he din't even need to use this tactic........

i recommend murray to try the fed tactic and not the rafa tactic........he doesn't have the fire power to blast forehands on short replies like rafa, so it's best to frustrate djokovic with that slice - similar to how he dealt with berdych........he needs to be bold and move forward when the points are begging to be ended at the net........

hard to believe how slow arthur ashe played yesterday.........if it really is that slow again, it would only be suicidal trying to attack........this final will be won by the one who defends better in the final and doesn't waste much energy trying to outhit the other........

Murray can slice and dice but can't do it all the time. it's more complex than that. it's gonna take a little bit more from Murray to win this as Nole is like a brick wall. except for that little hick up in the first set against Ferrer, he's played flawlessly. Murray will be a bit more rested. anyways guys bring it on  .

Real life was most inconvenient these last few days from a tennis perspective as I couldn't watch any of the USO matches! 

The feedback I've had from freinds who watched the SF's is that the Murray / Berdych match was about as exciting as as sheep eating grass!  Yawnworthy, but apparently the sheep would be somewhat more interesting.
My personal relief that Murray is through makes the deadliest of deadly boring matches worthwhile. So I'll watch it later.   We Brits have suffered from a GS title drought for long enough, and I don't care how we do it ( Murray may have to hit Djokovic over the head & run off with the trophy for all I care!       )    but Murray HAS to win it somehow!

My sources also say that the Djokovic match was only marginally more interesting albeit with the overnight break.

The dilemma for me is that of the two players, I much prefer Djokovic's game. But my heart goes out to Murray.

If ND wins, he'll underline the excellent year he's had & defend his title.   If AM wins, it'll be his first GS title & consolidate the Olympic title win.   Each man has a lot to play for.

And so, may they both play well, give it their all, and may the best player in the match take the title.  I hope it's a thriller!

Agree, and I thought his court sense was on full display during his windy SF, at least when Berd wasn't making UE's. Should be interesting, I wonder if Lendl will cook up any new tactics to employ against Nole.

Andy DOES have the ability to beat Novak but he has to forget about this silly mental and physical mindset thing. If you lose four times, you just have to admit that you have not been good enough. We know that Murray is good enough or he wouldn't have won 23 career titles and been to five finals of majors. Winning the Olympics proves he can do this but I still think  playing Novak in a Grand Slam final is different. There is a change in mentality and atmosphere.

Head to head you would thinkAndy has a chance but Nole has been playing some of his best tennis for a while in this open just as people were about to doubt him, so it will take some effort for Andy to win this one. Nole to win in four sets for me and win his sixth Grand Slam.
