Congratulations to Murray and to Sid / all Murray fans!  At long last the spectre of being slamless has been laid to rest.
To see his dreams realised is wonderful. Watching him lift the trophy is sweet. The newest GS champion. I'm sure he'll go from strength to strength.  And we have a British GS winner at last!!!   :)

Djokovic showed why he is such a great champion. He gave it his all, despite being unsettled at first.

And we have 4 different GS winners this year! That is great for the game.

Congrats to Murray and his fans, especially my bud Sid. It was a strange match. both players pushing so much. as a Nole fan I'm disappointed but Murray deserved to win for sure. anyway, let's celebrate. It was a time for Murray to win his first slam.

Nole played something, God knows what.  I don't even know how to describe it. Muzza, you are da man  :).

I miss Nole from 2007/08 who used to be so aggressive. oh well, life goes on. I expect Murry to win many more slams. the next one is probably the AO. Djokovic seems to be washed out.

That was indeed a very good final. I wasn't sure how it was going to end until the last few games although the medical time-out seemed to seal the deal (probably just as well  ..-) ).

Could not help thinking that we saw the consolidation of a new era at the top of mens tennis tonight although it has been coming for quite a while. I remembered being at the 2011 AO final, again with Djokovic and Murray,  but Murray was a different player tonight than at that time when he was frankly disappointing.

Besides, I like to see the top prizes go around.  :first-place: :first-place: :first-place: :first-place:

Indeed, in the big picture, this was very good for tennis.

The "New York crowd" knew it, too. And they were pretty rough, tonight!!   :rofl_2: :rofl_2:

For me it was the "did-not-expect-that" match...

Did not expect Murray to win in the first place, I thought it would be 4 tight sets for Novak...
Did not expect Murray to come out firing like he did, and take the first 2 sets..
Did not expect Murray to step up like he did in the fifth, and wrestle the match away from Novak like he did...

Whatever they are paying Ivan Lendl, he's worth it.
Congrats to Murray and all his fans.

You've had some great male US GS champions in the not too distant past Babblelot.  And female ones too, for that matter.  We haven't. In winning, AM has killed several birds with one stone, so to speak.  He has done us proud in the Olympics & in winning this title.  Cheers Andy.

Before I depart the thread, I'd like to congratulate the Bryan brothers for their title win here. Another outstanding year for them.
Carpe Diem
