Well, the first match lived up to my billing. Shockingly, Radwanska just never answered the call. I fully expected her to come roaring back in the second set but Vinci just wouldn't let her.

The Williams Sisters lost their 3rd round U.S. Open doubles match against the 4th seeded Russian team of Maria Kirilienko and Nadia Petrova.  Score was 6-1, 6-4!

I was watching the Murray match & they took us off to see the last few games of the Williams sisters doubles match.  They were off kilter, and although made a good effort in the second set, couldn't do enough to take it to a third.  I watched them at the Olympics in one match. Serena carries the burden these days. If Venus is on, fine. If not, Serena to the rescue.  They just didn't have the fight in this match.   Ml & NP kept focused despite the fight back in the second set & held their nerve. It was a good win to get it done in straight sets, against the Williams.  The commentator made me laugh when he said the winners would get lots of thank you cards for getting rid of the Williams threat!

Well, Venus and Serena couldn't keep their double's streak alive, but Serena is still in the single's draw!  I felt a little sorry for her opponent, but watching Serena in that match was heaven for me!  Go Serena!  Victoria also playing pretty well so far against Stosur!

Stosur seems to lacks confidence for some reason, but I too would like to see her get through. Doubtful though it seems.


EDIT - Williamchung7  - SS won the second set!  She could well still win! I'm pleased to see her fight!

I believe she hasn't build up her own confidence as top player and result she is not consistent enough. But in this match, it is also because her weak backhand side. Azarenka is able to put a lot of pressure on her weakness.

I really like to see Stosur hitting her big forehand when it is on song. I think it is the biggest shot in women game behind Serena's serve.

Azarenka's shrieking is unbearable. The volume is down here! Nice play by SS to on her serve.   But Azarenka gets to deuce after a challenged call.   She held. 1-1 in the third set.

My favourites for the doubles - Errani / Vinci look like winning in straights.

Williamchung7  -  Agreed. If SS remains focused and plays to her strengths she could do it. Lets see.

The second set in the doubles is very interesting!   Goerges / Peschke  take it to 6-5.  Presure on Errani ? vinci to hold. Good fun.

I think there is another issue. Stosur uses too much kick serve out wide to Azarenka's backhand.

The inability to change tactics probably relates to lack of confidence, don't you think Williamchung7?   I don't pretend I watch these women much, but SS is not the most creative of players. Azarenka thinks on her feet & is aggressive. You can almost hear her thinking away! 

Shes up 4-2 & I doubt of SS can pull it back.

My girls won their doubles match in straights!    I'm going back to watching Ferrer / Gasquet for a bit.

EDIT  - Wow! Just saw SS play a corking game to break!  If she holds, they'll be even!

I agree Stosur is not creative player like many great players in the past. For example, she seldom hit flat serve (that is 180km+).

Her pattern is too predictable.

Williamchung1   -  our girl in this match lost but she did her best against a better player.  I'm no fan of  VA but hats off to her for staying keen & getting the job done.

From of little I've watched of the women, SW looks unbeatable thus far.
