no offence, i do think its true that roger is the best, but the reason why he won so much even at this old age, is also because the younger ones are so useless, they can't even beat an "old" man  :zipped:

Roger was faster in his prime and hit his FH better but now his BH is far more consistent and his serve while it isn't the fastest one in the circuit is incredibly effective due to the fact that he can hit it with any effect and to any corner he wants, it's very difficult to read if he's in a good day.

Also, Annacone has sharpened his net game, he came up 47 times in a 3 set match and we all saw what happened in the Wimbledon final, where he managed to win 68% of his net approaches vs a very good passer like Murray.

Fed's BH was pretty poor for a few years there, it took a long time for him to straighten that out.

Also in those years of the shanking BH I think he didn't want to change what worked so well his whole career.
He was stubborn in that way IMO.

mimi: Roger is probably one of the most talented people ever to pick up a racket, add that the fact that he has great work ethics, a strong mentality and excellent scheduling.

No wonder why he's cementing his legend day after day  :)>>>>

And the youngest generations (under 22) are just pure crap right now, they cannot compete with the real top guys.

They can't beat Nadal or Djokovic either. Those three are probably the best top three of all time.

The younger ones are faced with three perfectly conditioned and gifted players who just happened to come along at the same time.

by mentioning younger players, i have also included the top guys as Nole and Murray, they are not under 22, but still  much younger than roger, but they can't beat him recently when he is getting "so old" (at least in these few months and in important matches), so they are also useless for me  :zipped:  :)~ :rofl_2:

hola arkulari.

are you sure that % was not higher at wimbledon. i thought he went to net 68 times and won the vast majority of those points.

anyway you make a good point. he is getting more mileage out of his net game and his serve because he can and he should as he is older now.

for instance, even in his prime he did not take care of his serve as well as he is doing now.

he was holding serve around 88% of the time in his prime. that % may be as high as 91-92% now.

i know it was 93% earlier in the year.

i am guessing of course but i will check shortly.

Guys - Fed routined Phau in 90 minutes. Now it's game ON with Verdasco. How do yo see this going? Verdasco is a hard-hitting Spanish lefty and we know those types give Roger a hard time.
Then we will fight in the shade.

fiasco is not the player he used to be general fed fan.

and i think fed is better than ever. slight loss of speed was to be expected but he understands and compensates for it quite well.

also what is their head-to-head? has fiasco ever won a match against him?

Beginning at the USO last year Fed was 22-1 till year end, just losing to Djokovic at the USO.
This year he's 56-7 not counting the USO.

So for the past 52 weeks Fed is at 78-8 won-lost.

Not the Murray fans.  :)

Tomorrow we have Ryan Harrison playing DelPo.

Shreveport native Ryan Harrison understands the expectations, the hope as a young American tennis player. Can he help fill the shoes of guys like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi?

It’s nice to wonder, but Harrison admits he hasn’t done enough to warrant the hope. Not just yet.
“Those guys have had extraordinary careers and have done so much for U.S. tennis. I have such a long way to go; stuff like that doesn’t come into play,” Harrison said. “I’ve never been to the third round of a (Grand) Slam.”

That could change today at the U.S. Open as the 20-year-old will face No. 7 seed Juan Martin Del Potro, the 2009 winner of the event, in the second round.

The match is scheduled to be the second match of the day on the Louis Armstrong Stadium Court. The first match, a women's singles second-round contest between Na Li (9) and Laura Robson, is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (CDT).

“I have a really tough opponent,” Harrison said, “but I know I can win this match if I play well. It’s not going to be easy, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.”

Harrison is roughly a 10-1 underdog against Del Potro, who has two singles titles this year.

“It all starts with my serve,” Harrison said. “If I serve well, there becomes a lot less pressure on the rest of my game. Then I can dictate. I know I can return well enough to put some pressure on him.”

A victory over Del Potro would likely send Flushing, N.Y., into a frenzy and fan the flames of expectation.

“After the third round, you have to make the second week,” Harrison said. “It only gets tougher from there. The closer you get to the top, the tougher it gets.
“I do believe I can get there.”

FFF, don't worry about things like that, for god's sake enjoy his game and stop worrying.  :)~

Fed has a way to go, you don't decline physically in just one year hardly at all.

that win for murray was important to him obviously as he took a step in the right direction if he wants to challenge the best of the best.

but i would take a wimbledon crown over an olympic gold medal given a choice of those two crowns.
