ATP & WTA reversal of fortunes simply uncanny
« on: September 05, 2012, 05:33:09 PM »
ATP, 11 majors between 2001 and 2003

2003   Wimbledon   Roger Federer
2003   French Open   Juan Carlos Ferrero
2003   Australian Open   Andre Agassi
2002   U.S. Open   Pete Sampras
2002   Wimbledon   Lleyton Hewitt
2002   French Open   Albert Costa
2002   Australian Open   Thomas Johannson
2001   U.S. Open           Lleyton Hewitt
2001   Wimbledon   Goran Ivanisevic
2001   French Open   Gustavo Kuerten

Only Lleyton Hewitt's name appears twice. 2011 and 2012, you can pretty much pencil in the top 8 before the start of the tournament and get 2/3 correct.

WTA, 7 majors between 2011 and 2012

2012   Wimbledon   Serena Williams
2012   French Open   Maria Sharapova
2012   Australian Open   Victoria Azarenka
2011   U.S. Open   Samantha Stosur
2011   Wimbledon   Petra Kvitova
2011   French Open   Li Na
2011   Australian Open   Kim Clijsters

No repeat winners. Between 2001-2003 you could pretty much pencil in the top 8 and be correct 80% of the time.

7 of the top 8 seeds on the men's side reached the quarters of 2012 US Open. That's exactly how it used to be on the women's side.

Serena didn't come back until 2011 Wimbledon. It wouldn't be too far fetched that if she didn't have her embolism problem late 2010 she would have had another Wimbledon and/or Aussie title in that her bag.
I lost the will to live mid way through the first set!
