here is why iron man won:

1. he knew he had to cut down on the errors and play a cleaner match. yesterday he had 42 unforced errors. he had 20 today.

2. he knew he had to be more patient and play slightly less high risk and more high percentage tennis which is exactly what he did.

3. he stayed with him in the rallies and sent him a message: the message was that he was not going to go away in the rallies. in other words, he stood up to him.

4. iron man made sure he was able to take care of his serve after losing his very first service game. that kept some of the pressure on the other side of the net.

5. finally he believed he could win today and that goes a long way. belief counts for a lot in our sport.

Well the old man is going to play his EIGHT TMC/WTF final, has won more than anyone in the tournament (both in titles and in match wins) and really shut our mouths shut 'cuz I was one of the people who thought Murray was going to beat him in straight sets.

The second set was a masterclass on how to attack, Roger played S&V in his serve and Chip&Charge on Murray's serve, he broke the Scot from *40-0 in one of the games, didn't waste a single BP.

I think the old man has a good shot of still being a GS contender next year, let's see how it goes but man, I don't see any of the current top 10 players (sans for Pics who's his same age) playing at that level when they are 31.

You cannot teach this kind of shot, it's pure reflexes and hand.  :)>>>>

Oh and a final piece of data to consider: Murray’s percentage of points won on his second serve (37%), and the number of returns Federer missed on second serves (0; he was 34 for 34).

Roger is not exactly known for his return prowess and Murray was the one serving better all week long...  :scared:

thanks for posting the video warrior princess.

i am hoping for a similar match tomorrow from the iron man. very few errors and taking care of his serve 100% of the time.

that will keep the pressure on the other side of the net.

7 has a nice ring to it.

I should mention another thing about Iron Man. 2 losses in a row to a top player(Murray) is not going to shatter his confidence. That's why he won today, he still believes.
Then we will fight in the shade.

Simply amazing post Warrior Princess Arkulari!  Iron Man Federer never ceases to surprise when least expected. Many had him ready for the retirement home after a poor US Open, and losing a final in Basel and not seeming to be too stellar here this year. But as we keep saying here in the castle, one can't count him out until he hangs up his magic wand!

He has one more match to go now, can "Iron Man" Federer beat "Mr. Fantastic" Djokovic to win his 7th title at the Masters Cup, his 7th title of the year, and tie Johnny McEnroe for his 77th career title?  That's a lot of 7's.  Or will Mr. Fantastic win his second Masters Cup and seal his #1 year on a winning note?  The last one they played here, Federer dominated 6-1, 6-4.  I hope to see a bit more competitive match.  But who knows what each will bring?

Yes. It must be true... :), as a top fan of Thomas Muster, you've seen what it takes to physically persevere.
But anyway, if you do sleep, I hope you get a good rest this night and get uip in time to see the match!

thanks general.

now lets hope he can keep the error count to 15 or less tomorrow.

and coupled with that is the big serve. it has to click tomorrow.

and if it does, its lights out. he will be holding his 7th masters cup hardware.

BTW Fed IRON MAN was 3/3 on break points today. He'll need more of that break point magic against Nole.
