Police: NFL player commits suicide

Kansas City Chiefs shot and killed his girlfriend early Saturday before shooting and killing himself at the team facility, according to police.
The Kansas City Star, citing police, identified the player as 25-year-old linebacker
Jovan Belcher.
The suicide took place at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs play, and the player shot himself in front of a “couple of coaches,” according to police. The Kansas City Star said the player was 25 years old.
According to sources, the stadium was cordoned off as players started arriving and police told them one of their teammates had shot himself.
The Chiefs are scheduled to host the
Carolina Panthers on Sunday. According to the Charlotte Observer, the NFL has told the Carolina Panthers to fly to Kansas City as planned to play the game.
The Chiefs released a statement that read: “We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”
